Good webcam advice needed

Just noticed my G19 keyboard LCD can monitor a web cam ... I dont really need a web cam for traditional usage, but the geek in me thinks it would be fun to hook one up and monitor my back garden ... so the cable would need to be about 2 metres (at most) long to sit at my window ... also infra red (or whatever it is?) for night vision would be nice too, be fun to see what my cat gets up to in my garden at night.

Any recomendations?

I could use it on a 19" LCD second monitor too, so a fairly good quality/resolution one, might even like motion capture, but that probably comes under dedicated software?

Would a wireless web cam work well?
