Is copper oxidation in water just black discoloration or does it eventually build up to be some gunk?

Do you have pictures?

No pictures, but in other threads I've seen what looks like black gunk on people's blocks and they claim to only run distilled and pt or silver.

I've also seen green gunk.

So long as you aren't using a dye/premix known to break down, any discolouration of the copper should just be oxidation.
It's no big problem, but I choose to route the issue altogether with nickel plating.
