HI and Forgive my Noobness,

I need to know what the best for the buck wireless router setup is.

I'm going to have two PCs in different rooms and a laptop on it. I have no wireless cards in any of the computers so a package deal probably would be good? (I still need to purchase the laptop so I may look for one with one).

I have Cable internet from Comcast about 1mb download to me and a 200K upload.

Certain concern: A cool firewall and security for the wireless part (I live in a town home complex).

Also, I would like to have some variable ping address stuff to hide who I am (don't know much about the pros or cons here, please inform if you like. The only real reason is I average about 1 a month download that RIAA doesn't like

Please help, I'm frustrated researching this because I just don't have a good enough background to know what to get and what not??

Thx

well, if you haven't bought something already, i just picked up a D-Link DI-624 router and DWL-G520 PCI card. it's fast and was easy enough to setup.

i saw a kit at Costco with the router and a PCMCIA card for a decent price. they've got rebates at the moment as well.

I have a dLink 614+, very nice, but if I were buying today I'd get the LinkSys BEFSR81 V1 or V2. There's a nice hacked firmware for it that enables a LOT of features including increased signal and range.

Check out http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,9349656~mode=flat for more info...

(edit) Woops, it's the Linksys WRT54G that has the nice hacked firmware, see http://h.vu.wifi-box.net/wrt54g/

i'll give it a try, but i've been thinking about just getting a 900MHz phone. this 2.4GHz one has been nothing but trouble.

Since the router uses 2.4, any 2.4 phone will conflict. I use a 900MHz phone, NP. In fact, I have both 900 and 2.4 phones, the 2.4's were dumped in a box long ago, no range.

yeah, this one i've got was an expensive piece of junk. i'm pretty sure a much less expensive 900MHz phone should work just fine for me.

I got a Linksys Wireless-G router with 2x wireless pci cards and its fast as hell. Im getting 9.3mbits down and 954kbits up with my OOL connection. Not losing any speed for wired ethernet to wireless.. The router is like $90 and the cards are $70
