Hey all,

I'ver personally burned now three UV cathodes. Do they usually suck this bad?

And what is the general opinion about the juice draw of these. Do they harm any of the rails?

Thanks

umm, i had 1 for a year and a half and it still worked til i broke it accidently.

the inverter they plug into creates a lot of volts, but they draw very low watt's and amps.

here (http://vantecusa.com/product-pcmods.html#)
is a link to vantecs website, if you check on the specs of one of the CCFLS heres what your get:

Output Voltage: 0v~580v
Output Curren: 5.00 + 0.03mA
Optimal Wattege: upt to 2.9W
Life: 15000

If we consider this info to be accurate, that would make the lifespan of one of these CCFLs to be ~1.7 yrs. And as you can see the wattage draw is really low.

As far as your CCFLs dying, I would probably be more inclined to point towards cheap product. Many of the CCFLs sold with "cheap" looking inverters(look like they're wrapped in electrical tape) tend to be cheaply made themselves.

I have two UV CCFLs that I recieved from xoxide almost a year ago and they are still just as bright.
