My current build will have 12 GT 30's, the 4250 RPM version and two Fractal 1000 RPM's in the back of the case. I will be using the Aquaero 5 but I will need more firepower.
The FC8 http://www.lamptron.com/products/view/Fan_Controller_FC8 looks pretty good and I have only found one review so I thought I would find out if any of you cureently use it.
TIA

EDIT: SHOOT didnt read the 4300 rpm versions..

Ummm Seeker... if those draw like san aces... not even a rheobus extreme will handle that long term.
I didnt burn it out yet.. but i got close.. and i was running that many san aces..

That is why I will use three FC8's.

mmm... so 1 fan per header?

I think you'd be safe with even 2...

3.. is where i had them at, and saw problems.

Two would be safe with my calculations, but three may look better:cool:

ahahahaha.... 3 controllers look kinda messy... :X

Well if 3 san aces on 1 header can do this to an extreme.. and i bet its from startup spike:

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p73/aigomorla/Nadeshiko/IMG_0757.jpg

i wouldnt hold your breath on any fan controller, unless it directly plugged into a pci-e 6pin itself.

As for lamptron controllers... i was looking at the FC8 also, to replace that extreme...
A friend of mine said there good, but its not what i want...

No LCD screen tho seeker? You can go temp probe listing like on a FC5 as 1 of them.

I will be using the Aquaero 5 and three or four screens may be to confusing to the eye. I could go with two FC5 V2's, but I want to highlight the Aquaero since my new build will be mainly black and white with a touch of red.

Your using DDC's?

Not stealing the light away from your Aquero5, you could have a quick display.
No one said u had to plug in a fan in the header, you could have it display DDC RPM.

If your running dual loops, and 2 ddcs.
1: flow (provided u had a double flow meters.. 1 for your AQ5 and other for the FC5) 2. DDC RPM 1 3: Flow 2 4. DDC RPM.

mmmm, theres actually a lot you can do as quick display diag panels.
And the FC in red LED is oh so nice... i almost went with that instead of purple... but i like purple.. :P

NaeKuh,
Single loop, 4 D5's in serial with dual EK tops, Feser 120.4, Coolgate 120.3, Aqua Silver XT CPU, EK or Koolance MB block, EK Ram block, 2 EK 580 blocks and the Aquaero block. I should be cool  I just need to control 14 fans!

and u call me special...

can u imagine changing them tho... u have to go though 12 different dials..

I wonder if u could tune them like a musical instrument..

Well, if you can deal with W7, you can turn a few knobs:D

HAhahahahahahahah!!! nice one. so true.

shoulda stuck to PMs LOL I totally had no idea who you were till I saw your sig seeker :| i'm so Avatar centric.

1 fan per header sounds like evil evil no fun to me : ).

http://www.lamptron.com/products/view/Fan-Atic:_5-port I've been using the (7v off 12v) version for two years with 3 Delta EFB1212SHE on one header and a Delta GFB1212VHW on another header(other headers occupied with little 60 and 80mm spot cooling fans). The 3 tri blades pull ~10W each SS and the 120x76mm delta pulls 48W according to the spec sheet on its side.

If you don't need a wide range of voltages but rather just a off/low/high control it works fine. Just a switch so not much to go wrong and it uses a 4 pin molex for supply so you have a bit beefer connection and larger connector surface area.

I know I am a total noob in these here parts, but this is the kind of subject that tickles my "tinkering brain" so I feel obligated to reply.

If the objective is to run high powered fans and have the ability to control them; why not think about using PWM fans and making your own PWM controller for them?

I Currently have:
2 x Nidec G1238B12BBZP-00 (http://catalog.e-jpc.com/item/high-pressure-fans/g1238b-series-brushless-dc-fans-119x38/g1238b12bbzp-00)
These are 53W power draw with 74W start up power draw. So there is no controller out there now that could hold even one of these...
The good thing is they are PWM, so just feed them 12V straight from the PSU and run the PWM wire to a PWM controller and voila... No power draw issues, no blown headers on your fan controller...

Here's a video of the controller I built for this particular fan model: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4sUvnvooAY
These fans work on a 5KHz PWM frequency; not the regular 25KHz frequency that most commercially available fans run on so the circuit had to be changed to suit, but it was as simple as switching one of the capacitors and done...

2 x San Ace 9SG1212P1G0 (http://www.newark.com/sanyo-denki-sanace-fans/9sg1212p1g01/axial-fan-120mm-12vdc-4a/dp/96M1757)1
These are 48W power draw... Datasheet does not list start up power draw, but a safe guess would be somewhere in the 60s... Only a few of the controllers out there would be able to hold one of these per channel, but I still would not want to run them off a "resistance" based controller... The heat created by the controller when slowing them down is not something I'd want in my case anyway... Again these are also PWM fans so the same applies... Feed them 12V and control them with your very own PWM controller.

Here's a video of the controller I built for this particular fan model: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJON56VHZIQ

Here are the fans just in case you're curious as to how they look:

As for the controller.. well; I'm sure there are some EE gurus here that have come up with circuits for this; I found one over at OCF and went with that one for its simplicity...

You can find the circuit and a bunch of examples of controllers built here (http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=641111)

You should really give this whole PWM controller some thought; it is way more efficient than "resistance" based controllers.

PWM will not work for me due to aesthetic reasons. I did consider it, but there are not enough options. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey... No worries. I totally understand what you mean; it has to look good too.

Now; there is a way that you can keep the look of the AP-30 fans and still get the advantage of PWM: D1225C12BBZP-00... I'm sure you know about these as they have been reviewed a few times here in the forums. Granted; these things are a roya PITA to get in the US, but never hurts to try. I hope you don't feel as if I'm trying to push something down your throat... It's just that since I found out how much more efficient PWM fans are; and how much more control you get over the speed on them I've been completely stuck on them...

:)

I'm using one!

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=265650&highlight=fc-8

So far no problems. I'm only using 2 medium yate loons on each channel now though. Was using GT's but they were needed elsewhere.

Favorite part is the lights aren't blinding and you can change color from the front by pushing knobs.

They've also been unavailable in Japan since the quake :(

Oh come on!!!

I was actually meaning to ask you if you could assist in sourcing a few of them since I haven't been able to find a single place that sells them here in the US.... I know these HAVE to be quieter than the Nidecs I have and that would just be perfect for my upcoming W/C build. I guess I'll just make do with them beastie Nidecs until the GTs come up for sale again...

But when they do; be sure I'll be sending you a PM or two regarding them... :)
