Well the guys at koolance sent me a pack to play with..

http://www.koolance.com/water-cooling/product_info.php?product_id=1108

http://www.koolance.com/water-cooling/images/more/bkt-hx001_p0.jpg

Taking the thinnest rad i could find, also the only one which the threading fit for..

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p73/aigomorla/Koolance%20Rad%20Screws/IMG_0611.jpg

The hardware allows for even a 38mm fan to be top case mounted and thumb screwed down:

A lot of you guys are probably asking what are these for..
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p73/aigomorla/Koolance%20Rad%20Screws/IMG_0613.jpg

Lets say puncture rad days should disappear soon?
:yepp:

The package i got said protoype... the web site says available..

I think there is still going to be work in progress.
I personally would like to see different color thumb screws to add a personal touch.

Also it would be nice if we had different threading sizes so it wasnt limited to just koolance + HWlabs rads.

now that's a simple and very useful product. $0.75 a screw isn't too bad I guess - $9 a radiator for convenience.

I just measure about how long of a screw I need and go to my local fastenall. I was able to order everything I needed for 12 fans on two rads for about $4. Any idea how much this hardware would cost? The only other problem I see with this is potential clearance issues. In my setup I really couldn't fit a screw who's head, or nut in this case, extended above the fan itself.

guys just note... there very picky with radiators at the moment.

Ive tried them on a MCR, a Feser, a XSPC.

I told Tim already, so lets see if different threading is possible, otherwise it will be a exclusive koolance + Hwlabs accessory.

lol i linked the product up at the first post.

And i would assume you could use it with a radgrill of some sort, and have colored thumb screws to add a personal touch.

Its another thing i asked Tim for if possible... :P

Otherwise im gonna take a sharpie and start coloring.

Hmm, yeah, Koolance & HWlabs with M4 thread. All the rest had UNC6-32 or M3? (Or wasn't early MCRs also M3.5 threaded?)

That's a good idea...I like it..:)

Wouldn't it be great if a manufacturer actually came up with a fool proof rad to prevent people from over tightening screws and puncturing rads

Thermochill were epic for that early days and including self tapping pointy screws :ROTF:

thanks to Bundy for the picture

The Koolance rad I just got has preventative measures built in. The place where the screw goes in has a closed bottom so you can only screw it in so far.

Here's a Koolance image...so that no one has to rely on NaeKuh's Famous Photography

I really like it, now they need to come out with a 13mm shroud to pair with 25mm fans for a perfect fit :)

While having preventative measures is really nice, how hard is it to make sure your screws aren't too long before using them?

it seems like the more elegant solution would be to just not have holes directly over the water channels. that way, worst case scenario is you tear a couple fins. which really doesn't matter that much.

E: also, I really wouldn't mind a version for 25mm fans, and also with 6-32 rad-side thread.

Exactly. Why not move the flow channels over a bit. Why right under the screw holes? Every radiator has this.

A shorter screw version for 25mm fans.

This was totally Naekuh's idea, so thanks for that! It looks like we might need to offer other thread types, too.. unless everyone can go M4. :)

All of our latest rads are being produced with pipe protection now, and our top performing models have been shipping this way for 2 years. There are several other brands out there that are still vulnerable, though.

Even if the pipes were shifted over (which is harder to do because pipe spacing's already set and mounting points are standardized now), you could still hit the fins. Localized fin damage isn't a big deal in reality, but it's something that can bother new users.

cuz everyone has old radiators.

And people buy used.

And personally, ive had a lot of punctured instances a while back. lol.

Ive seen them all with radiators.

1. One ruptured from having too much pressure.. 60psi to be exact, with the outport pluged.

2. Punctured rads, left and right... i think i owned 3 myself personally.

3. Making things easier..

Lets face it.. whenever you make something easier, its going to be a bit more pricey, but your paying for the easier part.

I am trying to bring watercooling almost to noob friendly levels..
now the biggest hurdle i have is water on components..
There is no safe gaurd to that..

Good idea, but they don't look as clean as some nice oxide black hex socket screws. Plus, M3 threads on my rad :/

Some of the original pics in this thread are linking incorrectly now because we had some misspelled image paths.

We've now opened two versions for both 25mm (http://www.koolance.com/water-cooling/product_info.php?product_id=1161) and 38mm (http://www.koolance.com/water-cooling/product_info.php?product_id=1162) thick fans, and each kit comes with black thumb nuts. They're painted this time, and they look good, but you'll probably need some pliers to thread them on the first time. Our next batch will use anodized aluminum nuts.

Any plans for an extender of sorts for those of us who run shrouded 38mm fans?

that might be tough considering that we all use different types of shrouds.

I love the idea, because it's like a cpu mount that you put there and regardless of which fan you use (there is one exception) it just goes on and you tighten a thumb nut. But of course, I would be the exception as I have Triberks and I would need 52mm+ screws and they would need to be in a 6-32 thread since I already tapped my Thermochills that way. Anyway, love the idea, it would be great if you expanded on them in sizes and colors, but still a great idea all around.

I figured I was in the majority in that I just use gutted (25mm) fans for my shrouds

I love the idea and will definitely grab some for anything shroudless I do though

We leave enough for our fan shroud and grill, but it's probably not enough for everyone. The "25mm" version is 29mm long (not including the radiator side thread) to go through the fan, shroud, grill, and cap with our 5mm thick nut. The "38mm" version has 43mm available, not including the radiator side.
