View Full Version : New Koolance CPU-370 Water Block

Koolance

We have now released our newest CPU block, the CPU-370 (http://www.koolance.com/water-cooling/product_info.php?product_id=2030)!

Most people really seemed to like the CPU-360 visually, so we didn't want to alter this styling for the CPU-370. You may notice that the nozzles are spaced farther apart on this model. Our own 3/4" OD compressions fit with several millimeters to spare, so extra wide nozzles shouldn't have any problem.

Internally, the flow path, impingement plate, and cold plate have all been optimized for greater performance. Pending reviews (http://skinneelabs.com/cpu-370-preview/) should tell by how much :). The price is the same as the CPU-360 was at launch.

black nickle + gold blingness!Gold base plates won't be compatible with my testing though :(

Testing starts...tonight or tomorrow morning. Had to make a repair to my CPU Block testbed after my recent move. Repair should be usable soon but don't want to push it.

I love how the O-ring is kept round in both the 360 and 370. Does not look like it requires much effort to put back together.

I have the worst timing in the world, as I just got my 360 last Friday ;z Hopefully it isn't much of a difference real world.

Nice looking block! Are you considering a black nickel version? :)

Tim: can you tell distance between centers of inlets in mm? It's nice to hear that your fittings fits and other big ones also "should", but better to know for exact if it's so. According to sidewinder's fitting datasheet, BP's CF 1/2"ID-3/4"OD width is 26.01mm. Is that distance at least as big?

Vapor

I can confirm that CPU-370 is compatible with BP 1/2-3/4" fittings :)

Also compatible with Thermochill 1/2-3/4" compressions, Koolance 1/2-3/4" compressions, EK 1/2-3/4" compressions, Enzotech 1/2-3/4" compressions, and XSPC 1/2-3/4" compressions (tight fit for the XSPC though).

Gah, have you seen the price of gold? Copper's getting painful enough. :)

Gah, have you seen the price of gold? Copper's getting painful enough. :)

Only cause n00bs go stealing the cables etc! The number of services disrupted by people stealing our PSTN copper... *grumbles*

Working in the business section of 1 of the UK's major ISP's means I hear about it all the time... :(

Bex: Oh, another ISP/telco person. High five! :)
In addition to stealing copper cables one can add also chopping fiber with axe. Heard about such things too :D

Tim: what do you think of releasing different colored stickers that could be slapped onto that star shaped mounting plate? Should be cheap enough, and make block better fit for any build color theme. I for example would love black one :). Same idea could be applied also to all of your blocks, eg. GPU full covers too. It worked for swiftech/EVGA.

@ Churchy : LOL Yeah don't talk to be about fibre cuts... the backup had broken at the other ISP exchange and then a pit collapsed on our primary fibre and to fix it we had to shut 1 of the biggest roads coming in/out London during peak rush out traffic! Government had to approve us ripping it up to get it online cause it took down a lot of services....

@ Tim : I do like it, and if I had other Koolance blocks it'd look brilliant, but it's so different from my current blocks I don't think it'd fit in as it is - Churchy's idea aint half bad :D

Are the CPU-360 and CPU-370 physically the same size overall, with just different location of ports, and minor interneral changes?

I'm just curious if it would be possible to change a CPU-360 into a CPU-370 by swapping top halves? That is if you made that an option.

I have a CPU-360, so I'm just curious.

Edit: I just noticed you'd also need the mounting brackets (star), since center port is off center compared to the 360.

How much better is it compared with the CPU-360, which is what I'm currently using? If it's just 2-3 degrees better, then I'll just wait till I upgrade to Sandy Bridge E the end of the year before getting this new block.

The difference isn't large for sure. This is more of a revision than a new block.

If you went just by aesthetics, sure. But small physical tweaks can make a big difference in performance.

+1 to that. Loved the looks of 360 over all the other blocks (with Kryo as second and new rev of EK HF as third in looks-only area). No need to fix what's not broken and experiment wildly when one already has good design on hands imho.

We include metal tape with all of our CPU blocks for attaching the flat thermistors from our cooling systems (fans control/alarm/shutdown).

Noticed fresh release of preview performance data/review (http://skinneelabs.com/cpu-370-performance-preview/) of CPU-370 @ skinneelab, haven't even read through yet, enjoy :)

Hmm, it looks a big win over 360, tiny win over HF in temps.
Interesting points are that further enhancement possible with different jetplate, and that 360 with top of 370 shows almost same performance.
Eek, +1 to getting interesting again for CPU blocks. i cant wait to see all the leading block new versions to see pitted each against as soon as possible, indeed.

2Tim: if stock jetplate won't be with 1.6mm cut, will you sell optional replacement jetplates? Also any plans for selling upgrade tops only for 360 owners?

Thanks 4 the heads up churchy.

Great read skinnee  Being that I have a 360 v1.2, I felt like I was getting the ole 1-2 from Ali :) when you were talking tops and bottoms.

We're still testing plates and other internal mods. It'll be pretty easy to offer other jet plates, and we'll start bundling whichever performs best with the CPU-370's as soon as they're available (or swap the stock plate). On Vapor's bench, he's seeing 1.45-1.5mm wide slit as the sweet spot, while the stock slit included with the CPU-370 right now is 2.0mm wide.

There is also some core size differences with sandy bridge. Here is a pretty cool core comparison I found perusing the net:
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj163/idontcare_photo_bucket/SBdiesizecomparedtoNehalemandWestmere.jpg

I'm guessing SB will have a more narrow heat signature? Less heat plus a narrower and shorter core length.

Yeah the mounting is only second to Swiftech (tho I'd say more durable). It was the main reason (aside from looks which I like) that I went for it (360, same mounting).

Those plates look solid - are they as they appear or are they rimmed? If solid that mounting mechanism is very robust.

Do you mean the top and bottom brackets? Those are steel with nickel plating. The inside impingement plate is stainless, while the blank plates we sell for user-modifications on our site are brass.

The brackets only - the parts used to support the backside of the mainboard and the top plate to hold the main block down over the cpu spreader.

I'll have a few of these in my hands in the upcoming weeks. Unfortunately they will be paperweights for a while. :(

Could somebody from Koolance please have a look at my thread about the mounting bracket & posts, seems someone on the Koolance forums is having the same problem.

Has anyone measure the thickness, or should i say depth of the channels. Then compared to total plate thickness. i am wondering how thick the copper is at the thinnest point. I took my last Koolance CPU-360, to a machinist, and had some of the base machined off. I'm now at around .5 mm. Thickness at the lowest point. Just wondering what these new ones are. Koolance if you could list that in the specs as well would be helpful. I know i dropped another degree and a half by doing that mod on my last block:(:(
