ok so i have the swiftech MCR320-QP STACK rad and the ap-15 gentle typhoons.
now the issue. WTF :brick::brick::brick::brick:were they thinking when they designed these fans? i cant get a screw in the channel? what the hell!! gah the frustration! so for some surface mount fans just get a real long screw. easy fix of course...but for these stackable rads i am totally without a clue how to do this. this makes no sense to me.
first of all one side is supposed to have screws. well cant do that, no screw will fit in the channel.
second the other side is supposed to use these plastic pop rivets. well, the thing is the housing pushes right through the hole in the fan! so its totally hopeless unless someone has some great idea. which is what im banking on!

i understand what your problem is, but i want pics... ;)

um... ive seen some people mount fans to radiators using silicon rubber thigns... maybe trying something like that? put them on the rad first. then pull them through the fans... the ap-15s are open corner arent they?

http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3294

something like this... pop them onto the radiators, and then put the fans over 1 rad, and then aligh the second rad and pop them into the fans

i believe i know what your talking about, but dont those add spacing between fan/rad? there can be no gap this is a stacked radiator.

please dont be so specific...i really wouldnt want to actually figure this out or anything. *sigh*

im confused man... what does tubing/hose have to do with this?

the radiator has to have a certain spacing between them. the fans are like the meat in a sandwich. so there can be no gap between the fans and the rads. the rad and fan have to be flush. those rubber grommets have a stopper between fan and rad. that will spread it out too much.

ok... so duct tape around it? get some sticky foam tape or a radiator gasket

Umm cut the rubber off?

Most use a dremel or even a pair of wirecutters and SNAP the offending bit off, for access. Your a watercooler, aka hobby modder. Make it happen.

where is this sandwhich gonna be placed? top of a case, bottom, externally, will it show?

heres the deal, you have to have a certain spacing between the two rads. having that big round piece of rubber here between rad and fan will mess up the spacing, and the two connecting peices will not touch.

Umm cut the rubber off?

if you cut this off the fan will be loose l in there i would imagine.

double sided tape...

that has crossed my mind as well. see the thing is though that the only fastners that hold the rad together are the fasteners in the fans. yeah its a tough nut to crack, so im not gonna crack it. just gonna split it into two rads which has been suggested to me numerous times anyways. :)

What's wrong with hacking the center out with a Dremel like we used to do with Yate Loons?

true this has occured to me. and actually i did that to several fans i own already. and the bad thing is they look lik ecrap when done, and man i hate to molest these fans LOL they are just awesome.

whattya think? will i benefit from just running it as two rads enough to warrant splitting them, or would you, personally, run it in a stack.
i can do either. got the dremel LOL\

but with the amount of people suggesting splitting the rad, i am wondering if i should just do it now, and not come back and do it later after i have the whole fandango setup. whattya think?

EDIT: oh and btw the other side of the fans mounting holes are larger than the base of the plastic rivets provided to connect them...would be very hard to impossible to get a screw in once it is together so they give you these plastic rivets that totally suck.

TBH, I ground down a couple of button head Allen screws to fit in the nut wells on 1 of my GT's, was a total :banana::banana::banana::banana: getting them in and they certainly won't come out without a hell of a fight. Another option you might want to consider. ;):p:
