getting close to my scores WITH VC overclock and prommy on my XP...

The more I see this type of thing, the closer my credit card gets to falling out of my wallet....

now having some probs with system. Not prime stable at 217 fsb even at 1.7v :(
still on crappy stock air, but still thought I'd at least get that on air :(
I did get vid card clocked to 448/400 and nerf'd my LOD in display properties and at 217fsb I scored 23,480 marks. Not too shabby, but I wan't like 26-27k and I hope my prommy can get me there.

Hope I didn't get a dud cpu. $440 for this slug is alot of scratch and I'd be the one person to get the one that only does 2.4ghz stable on a prommy.

will prime at stock and if no go there I dunno know what to do

yeah lol that was in mspaint. Sorry but I don't really have anything installed on that hd at the moment save for a few benching programs. The OS is already hosed, as it was installed on the Gigabyte K8Npro I had 1st and I just let OS redetect everything w/out reinstall as I was eager to see if this mobo worked.

I am quite disappointed that I couldn't manage a 200mhz oc on air though. Makes me kinda assume I won't even hit my goal of 2.6-2.8ghz on prommy which makes this whole venture kinda a waste :O

Not sure if any of the guys running 24/7 stable on prommy at say 2.7-2.8ghz were having such problems running 2.35-2.4ghz on air, maybe someone could give me some words of encouragement. Maybe I need a noob guide to oc'ing these cpus too. The P4 and AXP are pretty easy to oc. With the A64 there are other settings I don't fully understand like LDT, is this a limitation of the board or cpu, upstream data path?, and a few others I can't recall name of. I don't wanna nerf those settings if I don't have to.

JNav89GT,

I'm just starting to play with this rig...pretty much the same as yours. Try starting out with your LDT low...like 2 then when you max out try bumping LTD up to 2.5. maybe we can compare some notes here and help each other. I'm not familiar with this board or bios yet.;)

I also just started playing with my A64 3000+ and Shuttle AN50R. I'm currently pumping -10c to -15c coolent through a Swiftech MCW5000-64 and guess what... 2350 is about my top stable clock. :(

That's pretty bad compared to the A64 3200+ I had running at up to 2.5GHz with at lowest 0c coolent(and 1.7v btw). :(

I took tomorrow off to play with this setup so hopefully I can finger something out. BUT, I have a feeling my chip is a dud too. If I don't have any luck with the Shuttle... I may try my K8N Pro but I'm a little worried that the board may be dead OR it caused the death of my A64 3200+ so this is going to be a last resort.

Ok yeah good idea Dude!

I think what I'll do is just nerf all settings. Set ram to run 333 or so, set LDT to 2x. Not sure what upstream data path auto vs 8bit does though. System will run 3dmark at default vid card clocks at 220fsb ie 2420mhz, but won't tolerate ANY vid card oc'ing and is flakey pretty much anyway at that speed. At 217fsb or 2380 or whatever it works out to be I can oc my 9800XT to my max air previous stable at 450/400 and got a 23,480 score although my lod was nerf'd.

I'm quite ignorant on how much vid card clocks affect score overall, like a 10mhz gpu clock raise will give x amount of mark point etc...
Furthermore, I'm quite stubborn about using WinXP even though I'm using AMD and all the benchers recommend Win2k. I figure I'm gonna have to install DX9 anyway, and not sure if it's worth loading a crapload of extra SP's and drivers to Win2k vs XP that's so easy to setup. I guess I could use a spare drive and set it up I dunno.

I guess I should just take what this cpu gives me for mhz, but I'm always greedy, and want what others seem to get. IE the goal of 2.6-2.8ghz on MachI. Even at 2.6ghz I think I'd be happy b/c I'd have a fair shot at running ram at 1:1 then as I'd only be at 236fsb and I think I could find a pair of dimms(2x512mb's that could run 236fsb at fairly tight timings) Would be uber great to get 2.7ghz at 1:1 :) which would be 245 at 1:1. Not sure if any of the 512's I have can do that though. Gonna try to rectify my vdimm mod for this board.

Can't wait for my prommy kit to come from kittronics :O

LOL....we have a lot in common with this. I don't know much about 3d benching....this rig was built as my gaming rig and DVD ripper/burner/encoder......that's it's main reason for existence. I have the Shuttle with a64 3400....XT9800 with an artic cooling vga silencer on it....haven't decided yet which ram to stay with..but it will be 1gig....510w PCP&C PSU....2x80GB Maxtors which may change to 2x100gb WD 8mb cached hard drives (maybe in a 0 raid stripe)....to handle those big DVD files....all cooled in MachII. It's all stock with no volt mods on anything yet. Right now I'm only running about 215fsb. I'm just starting to poke around in bios settings and figure out what's what.;)

Please let us know how high you get with 1,7Vcore

JNav89GT

well mine will be fully modded once I get things sorted out
I used a pic and mod guide I found and evidently the pics was wrong and I soldered the vdimm to the wrong leg of the ic and board wouldn't even power on. Luckily I just wound the ground wire around a mobo mount screw so I was able to d/c it and figure it out. I do wanna redo that and prior to putting this all in my Mach I I will do the vcore mod, but no point now with stock air b/c the stock air cooler sucks for all but stock mhz IMO.

Well I did the vDimm mod on my Shuttle 2day.... before I cudn't get it to boot at 220 1:1 wiv my OCZ Plat. LE.... but it would do 261 CPU/12..

Now after the volt mod I'm sat here typing this at:

I'm impressed!!! This is Prime stable as well :P

can you post a pic of the leg you soldered onto for the vdimm mod!

and what cooling are you using

that rocks!!!!!

thanks for the pic
I soldered to the next let :O

will redo tonight and kick some arse!!!!

btw TC-how high can you get with that cpu overall with divided ram settings. And what LDT and upstream are you running at that fsb?

Cpu will run max. about 265x10 wiv a CPU/12 divider kicked in...

And for the LDT.... that's 2.5x at present wiv 252FSB and the upstream is set to AUTO i believe

JNav89GT, TheDude Keep us informed of how this combo goes as I'm very interested and will probably be getting identical cobo in a few weeks. I want to test drive A64 system before the FX53 939 combo comes out as I'm getting set up to make a reall good run at the orb when it does. I bought mdzcpa's mach1 this weekend that is being sent out to chilly1 for a 507 baker block mod. I need to save up some real cash as I have a long list of upgrades when it does.

PCI express radeon card (tap warrenty CompUSA)
4 wester digital 72 raptors
pci express raid card
FX cpu
FX MB

that should be good for few thousand points

well stable max is 2321mhz :(
211fsb.
tried neutering ldt, upping all voltages available, trying other rams, using ram dividers. Nothing helps. The stock cooler is a POS and my chips is a turd.
Gonna have to sell it off eventually.
Well one positive though is I got 24k on air. Running at 217fsb(can bench 3d) and raden at 460/400 got just over 24k.

Have you tried upping the AGP/PCI clocks on the board... I found that this helped me just nudge everything that little bit higher
