HI guys,

I was wondering what would be the best way to remove the paint on my rad, I would respray/powdercoat the sides but leave the bar & fins bare. They will not be that visible either so it shouldnt look too bad.

Has anybody done this before and noticed much of a temp difference?

I did this to a pair of hardware labs gtx 480s-mine are stock black fin, white outside frame. tape over the fins using some masking tape. then slather on some paint remover (something with methyl ethyl ketone makes paint run for the hills). do this: outside, and with some nitrile gloves on, and humor me and keep a water bottle w/ you so in case that crap hits your arm you can rinse off a little quickly. let the paint bubble up, then scrape it off with a putty knife. wipe down, dry off. sand a bit the next day. something a little coarser than 2000 for pre paint in my opinion. spray paint a little at a time. sand in between coats.

Thx for the replies, I'm intending to remove the paint on the fins and tubes to increase heat transfer performance. I have heard that although the paints used are good they have nowhere near the same thermal properties as the copper.

Not manny rads can be powdercoated. Thermochill can not. Powderocating is 210c for ten mins. The silver solder melts!

HW Labbs Black Ice Stealth i have had powercoated and it worked fine!

What rad is it?

Chemicly dip it then wash and repeat, acetone might do it, nitromorse.

Thermochill can sell you a raw finished rad unpainted

the rad is copper, removing the paint wont increase or decrease performance, I highly suggest to leave the fins black and just spray the outside seeming as you cant remove the paint on the thins..
