I am getting a new monitor and have it down to two 23" panels, an ASUS which lists 2ms, and an Acer 5ms with a tv tuner

the asus is $25 cheaper, but the tv tuner and RGB expandability sure seem like it could come in handy since I don't have (or want) a separate TV in my room

Is the Acer worth getting?

I have had a 23 inch Acer for about a year and love it. I also have a netbook by them and it works great. To me they seem to be a great company not one problem thus far.

acer is no better worse than any other TN pannel. on the tuner, most if not all monitors with tuners on the market do clear QAM only, so it will only work with digital cable, but all but the legally required clear HD channels are encrypted. that means that u will end up needing a cable box (or uverse or sat) and then u just need speakers or audio out and HDMI with HDCP.

most asus have speakers, hdmi, dsub and dvi-d so that will get u the dvi for the computer and hdmi for the TV or console.

i got my dad an asus 1080P 23.6 5ms and i have an asus 25.5" 1920x1200 and they are acceptable for a TN, and i use acers quite frequently and they are the same, so i would get what is cheaper or what has the style u want with the inputs u want.

i use this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236047&cm_re=1920x1200-_-24-236-047-_-Product

and its well worth the extra $50 over a 1080p 23.6", and the rebate was quick and u can get sent over paypal so it gets there in 3-4 weeks (they do take money off but its not much to get paypal instead of those useless rebate cards)

I've been using an Acer 22" for almost 2 years now. Has been a great display for how affordable it is. A good friend of mine is running the 23" and his picture is great as well. If you're on a budget I wouldn't think twice about the Acer displays in comparison to similar models in that price range.

Built-in TV Tuner: ATSC, Clear-QAM

has VGA, Analog RGB, Digital, Component, AV, 3x HDMI

one connector looks like it's coaxial, has 2x 5W speakers, a remote, a USB port, SPDIF out, even has a V-Chip

Now they're both the same price, bank closed early today due to the snow so I couldn't order a panel yet. The asus deal i had is over, both are $179.99

my budget is capped at $185. and no, i'm not planning on getting the acer from newegg, i see it is oos

i had a 22" samsung which was nice but after only 2 1/2 years the background lights are going out. the panel itself still works fine.
i had an asus panel for a couple of weeks which was nice too but made a booboo.

i have the Acer S231HLbid (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009255) now and this is a very nice display. very small frame, thin and lightweight. it doesn't have a whole lot of features, etc but the picture quality is nice.
i am not much of a gamer but i yet to notice any lag in movies

that looks like its a TV and not a monitor, i would want to see it first, but it looks interesting.

and having atsc and clear qam dose not solve the problem of tv service, u will only beable to network tv unless u get a box.

i got my dad one of thees, its $159 affter rebate and $10 code, it will do tv stuff as well but no rca only hdmi for tv stuff

that Asus is the same price as the 23" asus I was looking at, they seem basically the same aside from the 23.6 has 5ms instead of 2ms GTG, and has more connections

the Acer TV arrives wednesday, it'd have to just not work at 1920x1080 for me to return it. how i've always used 1080p is by lugging my desktop to our 46" livingroom tv, so this seems like exactly what i want regardless of performance

I wish I had seen this thread earlier, but I have had terrible luck with Acer. I don't know if its the quality of their product or that I'm always fricking using it... but they do not make a quality product. Their support isn't bad but it isn't fantastic either. Their support might actually be better than their product tbh.

well i'm using the TV to display from an old laptop using VGA and it looks pretty good! can't wait till thursday when I get my EP45-UD3R to have my 460 power it via HDMI

as a TV it picks up more digital channels than the other two LCD panels my parents have (one's a 46" sammy), and coaxial works pretty good, considering the incoming resolution
