Ek 480 GTX Nickel back plate... Does it work on the 580 GTX?

The 580 GTX back plates don't seem like they will be available in the U.S. anytime soon. I'm wondering if the 480 GTX nickel back plate works with the 580 GTX? Anyone know?

How can it fit if mounting holes on 580 and 480 block are not on same positions?

I was under the impression the mounting holes are the same it was some memory chips or something that was higher that prevented the 480 block from fitting on the 580. I thought the holes were the same...
