Hmm. Too be honest I am not sure if that card will work or not natively on the Apple display. The HD5970 does, the HD5870 does not. Who knows what DisplayPort specifications Asus used. I would try using just a DisplayPort to mini DisplayPort cable to start. If you are unable to get usable video on the screen you may end up needing to try the AT-DP400. If you do end up going w/ the AT-DP400 let me know how well it works. I would like to move up to a GTX580 from my GTX460 (which has DisplayPort) but not sure if I want to spend $200 on a converter or not.

might be tricky, the ACD doesnt have a power switch..so hope the converter still kicks it on like mini display port would

maybe grab this?

That Apple adapter will not work. You will be wasting your money if you buy it. It is used only w/ DisplayPort outputs on Apple computers. You want this cable.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10246&cs_id=1024606&p_id=6007&seq=1&format=2

If that doesn't work then you will require the Atlona AT-DP400.

I have no idea on how well the Atlona AT-DP400 works. I've never seen anyone use one before.

Once again I don't think that will work. Those devices are to be used the other direction. A DisplayPort capable computer using a monitor that doesn't support DisplayPort. Try the monoprice cable first. If it doesn't work you will NEED the Althona device. All the other devices out there will not cut it.

The DisplayPort input on the 27" iMac acts exactly the same way as a cinema display. My iMac is my monitor for my gaming machine.

i have changed things around, im going 5970 ill get the asus 5970.
natively should work displayport to mini displayport correct?
if i want to go dvi from 5970 to mini displayport acd will that look better?
i got all the parts except dp400 and i needed coupler for 2 male ends acd end and display port other end frrom acd....thanks:cool:

The HD5970 has mini display port and it will work perfectly fine w/ the Apple display. You cannot use DVI w/o the use of the Althona and it won't provide anything DisplayPort doesn't already do.

Couldnt you use this:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042804&p_id=6502&seq=1&format=2

Plus this:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&p_id=6904&seq=1&format=2

So what you do is plug your DVI dual link into the adapter, then plug the min display port cable from adapter to the female to female coupler, then the the mini display port cable from the monitor the the other end of the female to female coupler.

Sounds like this would work and be only $40 all said an done vs $200 for the atlona adapter :)

Won't work. This is to use a DVI monitor on a DisplayPort videocard. Not the opposite way around.
