Well setup Gigabyte K8Npro and A64 3400+ with retail cooler(waiting for prommy kit)
install OS winxp sp1 pro
drivers etc...

try to run 3dmark=crash 3 times with vpu recover console showing up :O

then try to run prime
fails withing 3 iterations if not 1st

try flashing bios to F9, no help

trying to move ram around now and diff modules.

Tried oc'ing cpu but 210fsb was highest I could boot. 220 wouldn't even get to windows load/status screen.

I did vdimm mod and vcore mod board and mods are working.
IDE channel 1 doesn't work on board
this is a newegg barebones refurb btw.
using promise 100TX controller for hd

thinking either board is bad 90% chance
or cpu is bad 10% chance IMO

what you guys think

wow thats pretty good, i plan on getting the same set up, if only my waterblocks can support A64 sockets, i would be set for a sweet cooling system too.. i only have waterblocks for p4 and AMD XP

JNav89GT it's either your board or the mem.

I had hell with the K8N Pro and stability at even 200Fsb..with Twinmos PC3200..and Corsair PC3200...but when I stuck in some HyperX 3500..well look :)

i had to change the LDT to 2.5x for my shuttle to be stable even at stock speeds.... If your overclocking change the LDT to 2.5x and that should fix your stability problems

well I'm gonna rma the board and buy the shuttle

for some reason my gut told me not to trust gigabyte(have never liked their boards) but my wallet begged me to try this one :O

Well the shuttle will offer better vdimm anyway, best I can get outa this board is 2.94-2.95 :(

gigabyte didn't even service this pile of crap. Good thing I bought a retail cpu b/c the retention bracket on the board was snapped off on one end. Primary IDE is dead, won't recognize anything. And I've tried about 10 diff sticks of ram in diff configs :(

Sounds like you were a bit unlucky with the board then..

Ive never had a problem with gigabyte.. I had a great 440BX board from them (those were the days, small boys jumpers for goalposts)

Good luck with the replacement.

Yuck, I'm playing around with the Shuttle board atm, undervolts a bit :| Can only get abotu 230 2-2-2-5 at 2.85 v on this board, where as the NF7 (overvolts a bit I believe) got me about 240 on the same timings. Real nice board, although the temps have gotta be off, cold boot and it starts at 40+ C

pinoy ~ what waterblocks do you have? I just turned the retention bracket upside down and put it on top of my Whitewater and that seems to be working pretty well so far.

Are you talking about the shuttle nf2 board?

Hey saffire, I am stuck at nearly exact same point with 3400+. Maybe it is this damn mobo and not my chip. I can't get past 230 1:1 in 3dmark for the life of me. This is on a modded mach2!!! IM using LV2 at 5-2-2-2 as well. It wouldnt run the full gig(2x512), so I put in one stick. That got me to 230. Both of these sticks CAN run 252 5-2-2-2 2@ 3.15-3.17v.
I did the mods and it made no difference. I have been up to 1.89v on the chip and 3.45 on the ram, and it just wont go past 230 stable 3d.

I set LDT to 2x and that seemed to help from 225-230 but thats it.
I am thinking of going and grabbing a new mobo to rule out this chip.

Remember A64 boards are very picky...It is important to use the ram that they "like"

Yes get the shuttle. I am getting the a64 3400+ w/ the shuttle an50r along w/ a prom mach2, r9800xt, and some ocz non bh-5 ram (the ram that bowman is using as soon as he tells me what it is) :D

good luck
