would depend on the game i would think. most of the ones i can think of only let you set the FOV to something like 120 - 125. it would surly look better from further back. and may help some but the FOV is what would give you a clear advantage. but also i tend to set mine only to 115 - 120, setting it higher seems to give you the fish-eye effect and is kinda dizzying a bit.

depends completely on the game engine.

Assuming the FOV scales up, there's no way it can't. With something like CoD or Battlefield or any UE3 game, a higher FOV gives you a huge advantage in multiplayer because you can see a lot more - your larger peripheral vision means it's very hard for another player to sneak up on you, and you can spot potential targets much easier.

Using one monitor allows higher fps.
more fps allows you to move swiftly around 360degrees which you do if you play with one screen.
Playing with 3 screens, and having more field of vision, requires more horsepower but also is a lot more fun to play with.

I play BC2 at 5760x1080, doing so, I cant say I have a huge advantage but it is way more immersive and I do see more at the sides.
so, yea it have saved me a few times but I cant say it gives me a superiour advantage, for me it just is much more fun.
This allows me to, look at the sides when I run forward without having to constantly move around to check the enemy.

I run a 4.2ghz quad i7 950 and a crossfire 6850 at 940/1150, and I still feel like I could use a little more power even if it is currently really smooth for me.
it feels like one screengaming for the most part, likely I will replace my cards with either 6950 or 6970 or even one 6990.
3 screens suck a lot of juice.
I aim to have 150fps, and currently its around 100fps.

My playstyle is first in and last out.
I die a lot but I kill a lot, with this setup I am still in the top 5 basically in every round and for me its a blast playing with eyefunity.
w/l ratio is 2.57 and k/d ratio is 1.59.
L47 currently.
