Hi!
Been reading the forums for a while, just never really posted anything! :p:

Anyway, I am most likely selling my Mac Pro this weekend or the next wth my 30" screen and I'll be keeping my 24" and 22" 3D ready screen and I want to buy my wife a new iMac as well as a nice gaming rig for myself!

I've never actually built one myself from the ground up, although I did see quite a few people doing it so I doubt I'd have any problems with the assembling part. What I am not sure of is if the parts I've picked are good or not, and I'd like to know if any of you guys who know a lot more about it than me (I've been living in Steve Jobs world for the last 5 years) could help me.

I've got a budget of around 2K$ (give or take) and I'll most likely be using the 3D display to game. I have been wanting to buy an SLI rig for a while so I went with 2 GTX 580 :D . Here's a list for the rest of the parts and links. I'd like some advice on whether or not it's all good and what should be changed, as well as what should be added (like maybe fans for example and which ones). I might be interested in overclocking a bit although it does scare me a bit, but I think the processor I picked can easily be overclocked, so any advice on that would be appreciated. So anyway, here it is:

I am still a bit unsure about the SLI though as it would bring the price down a tons, and since I'll most likely be gaming at low resolutions for now (1680x1050) I am guessing it won't be too big of a deal, although the 3D might slow it down a lot, but the GTX 580 might be powerful enough for it though, considering the resolution is kind of low. It all depends on how much I'll sell my Mac Pro, as if I have the money, I'll most likely take the bite and get the SLI anyway :P

Also, should I be buying any fans or anything extra? Any advice would be extremely appreciated. Thanks!

dont go sli on amd, lucid is faster and the nvidia chipsets suck so get the crossfire IV extreme, or if u want sli its most likely a better idea to intel. and i would suggest waiting for the 6970 it should beat the 580

tipple channel kits are bad for amd go dual channel as they do not do tri channel

that psu is crap get something reputable like corsair or seasonic

that HDD is one of the worst 1TB get the f3 samsung.

Thanks for the input!

I've made some changes now, what do you think? Also, do ATI work with the 3D displays? I already have a 3D display and Nvidia 3D vision kit :S

Also, would 750 watts be enough for SLI or would I need more?

ati works with real 3d panels, if u have to use a 3d vision kit then u have 120hz panels and no they wont work.

for sli 580 i would guess that u will need atleast an 850W and i would get a 1KW (each 580 is about 250W and the cpu/MB and accessories should be about 200W so thats 700W) and u should go for about 10% extra and u will need an extra 70W for ocing the cpu/ram or so and for the gpus im not sure but the 480 can do well over 300W so im guessing like 50W extra each for playing with but mroe for benching, so 1KW will be nice for it, get something nice though not a rosewill or coolermaster or other cheap crap its the core of your system. so corsair, seasonic, ext.

for a MV look at the sabertooth, it looks better than the ud3 but i may be wrong as i dont do intel anymore and i dont like the x58, i would go p55 but i dont know how the 580 reacts to 8x, the 480 is fine though so i would bet that the 580 would be also as they basically the same.

Found a nice 950W corsair so I switched that and I went with your suggestion for the Motherboard, so I guess I should be all set now :P

Dvd burner wise I reccomend looking for the best sony optiarc you can find.
Each gen is diff so you should look at diff reviews and such.

I've got a 7241s-0b I believe.
These are last gen though so you might want to look up on the word about the newer drives.

The buyer is coming tomorrow at noon. If all goes well I should have all of those parts in my mailbox by the end of next week!
