View Full Version : how to connect the computer psu to car battary?

i want to setup my computer as a media station in my car and i need to find the cheapest way to connect it to the car

help?:confused:

i was thinking of building a power convertor form the car to the computer psu.
how can it be done?

Just buy a power inverter. It will give you 120V AC in your car (I'm assuming you are in the US, but I've also seen 240V inverters in europe too).

From the subject of this thread I thought you were asking about something different (and silly) that I've done before... charging a car battery from a computer PSU. Yes I did it one time using an Enermax 550W PSU with alligator clips attached to a molex connector. It took a few hours, but it was enough to get the car started (and the psu didn't blow up either).

I remember seeing this huge one @ costco's last night. 1750 watt inverter. But i doubt you need that big.

i've got a 500 watt one in my explorer. I run everything off of it when camping or whatever. Paid like $59 for it. I've ran a computer off of it. LCD monitor
