I haven't followed with monitors lately and feel lost, but I have to get a new one after my good old Samsung 2494HM died on me. So I would propitiate any help.

I decided to go with a IPS-panel because the price-difference to TN is not much now.

HP is running a campaign with a good price cut on HP ZR24W with a new SKU (VM633A4#ABB) right now. This looks good to me, and is on the top of the my list right now.
I can also get a Nec EA231WMi for ~50$ less, but this is smaller (1920 x 1080 ), and a Dell U2410 is going to cost me 130$ more than ZR24W.

I'm going to use this monitor for writing text/program (MS visual studio) + some surfing (trolling on XS, LOL) and some hobby photo/video editing, mostly.

Should I go for a HP ZR24W or what would you guys suggest? I'm also open to other options you may have.

I don't need to rotate the stand, and in case could use the stand from my good old dead Samsung 2494HM too. You are right all new monitors seams to be 1920x1080.

I've been looking in to Nec EA231WMi too, and it seams to be a good monitor with many positive reviews. My biggest concern was the size, because I got used to 1920x1200, but I can live with this size too, I believe. This is getting higher opp on my list now, but now I'm wondering how the panel-quality compares to ZR24W.

Just found a good price on Nec EA231WMi and placed an order. The price is almost the same as a TN-panel, so it can't go wrong. :)
It was on remote-stock and will take a couple of days to get here. It will be interesting to see how it works.

Thx :), but it didn't say anything about being refurbished, it is just somewhere else than retailers local storage, as i understood. But now I'm wondering, and you can see it here: http://www.amentio.no/Avdelinger/datautstyr/Skjerm/23__LCD/OEM/NEC-MultiSync-EA231WMi---LCD-skjerm---TF-60002693-968879.aspx, This is a Norwegian site but the description is in English, tho. Is this refurbished?

It should be here soon, hopefully.

Neither. Get the 120hz LG W2363D. You'll be more than happy with it.

I've actually been looking into 120hz 3D monitors (mostly at Acer GD245HQ and Asus VG236H), but didn't look at this one. I can always have some fun with 3D, but I don't game much these days. How good is the 2D/desktop on this one? Is it better than ordinary TN-panel?, in case in which way?

The EA231WMi is delayed by 9 days, and I can always cancel my order and get another one, but I don't know much about this monitor. I'm going to google it up and read, but I don't understand much monitors anyways, LOL.

More inputs/ideas about LG W2363D or other 3D monitors?.

EDIT:
I have been looking more into 3D, and found a Asus VG236H + NVIDIA 3D Vision kit for a good price (~50$ more). What do you guys think about it?
Changed the title to reflect the new 3D-question.

If you can understand german - there is a good review at prad.de.
http://www.prad.de/new/monitore/test/2010/test-lg-w2363d.html

Personally speaking, I have this display and I use it as a primier display on this pc. It is outstanding, I mean it. Great colors, the pciture quality is superb. I've had a number of different displays including some crazy expensive eizo models, so I can compare. ) And it is 3d capable too. While in my opinion the 3d in games is a worthless thing, watching 3d movies and cartoons is really cool. The 3d feeling is much better than the one you get at the cinema. imax included. If you can manage a full refund in case if you don't like it - lg is the only way to go, imo.
Probably other 120hzs are as good as this one, but I can't tell that for sure, as I haven't seen them in person.

Just picket up a EA231WMi and my first impression is good. No dead pixels, and factory settings is good too.

I'm trying to adjust it for better results, and trying to find some settings for calibration, but so far so good.

I've just found a couple of good ICC Profiles at TFT Central (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/icc_profiles.htm) and using the native one with 50 Contrast and 50 brightness. It looks much better now.

But I'm still experimenting, and would like to try that one at pard too. You got a link to that thing?

Some feedback on EA231WMi in second day.

I've been playing with my pictures, my little hobby, after using the ICC Profile above, and WOW. It looks really amazing now.
Not only colors are accurate and vibrant, but for the first time I can see the depth of the pictures too. This is a great monitor for picture, movies, but text looks smooth and easy to read too.

This 23" 1920 x 1080 is a bit smaller compared to my good old 24" 1920x1200, but I've just moved the monitor closer to my eyes, and the text looks as good now.
The 1920 x 1080-reclusion is a kind wired after many years with 1920x1200, but it's not too bad, and I think i will get used to it soon.

Generally, I'm really happy with it at the second day av use.

Don't go for the ZR24W, unless you want standard gamut. I was going to get one as a temporary replacement for my Samsung 305T Plus since thats off for repair, but I'm glad I didn't since I could never use a monitor with standard color gamut.

I must say IPS looks amazing, but after using a 120hz now I don't want to come back to 60hz lol
