It seems the clean energy project phase 2 may get a windows client soon. I have 8 betas for it.

NICE! I've been eyeing on that project for a long time, and was really frustrated when I see the Linux requirements.

Got like 10 of them a few days ago, errored out immediately on my SR-2 (Win7 x64). Seems they got a lot of work left to do there...

I have 28 in total. 4 are running now. Would be nice to see this one going.

I got alot (~48 - 60), and ended up aborting almost all of them and delisting the majority of my crunchers from beta testing. They have bring down my windows crunchers since last night; computers that were stable for a week on WCG. Even after vcore bumps and turning down the clocks my machines still locked, then they would fail to post again in bios and take a little bit of messing around with to get them going again. On top of that they were showing crazy (2 or 3 days or something like that) times to complete. I left 12 Beta CEP2 windows in que on my main machine to watch but right now I have too much other work to do than to baby sit my machines while bad WU's bring down my crunchers.

I think they still have alot of work to do before we see windows CEP2 WU's.

My Phenom II errored them all instantly, but both my c2ds and both my i7s handled them perfectly - not a single error.

That's flakey even for beta units.

I looked over my results; I did have 7 Beta CEP2 WU's complete and pending validation and another 14 Valids.

Hard drive activity from these BETA's is HUGE! Do not let more than 4 run concurrently. I had a bunch of crashes too until I went in and suspended them all and then let them run through 3 or 4 at a time, then everything was fine. I'm not sure how I will crunch CEP2 since I usually focus on 1 project at a time. But even running a mix can't guarantee a string of 8-10 of these won't come down the pipe and grind your rig to a halt.

That might explain a thing or two. Also, all 12 of the beta WU's were running all... synchronized. Exactly the same progress and completed and estimated times. I've been running ~12 CEP2 WU's on my Linux crunchers... as the other thread says, they do OK, maybe ~95% average cpu usage across 12 cores, not perfect but good enough. Maybe just mix CEP2 with any other lighter project 50/50 and you should be good (enough.)

Guys, fallwind is totally right.

In the WCG forums a lot of people report that these stress test your hard drive very hard. Now, if you guys let them run on your crunchers, which only do have some crappy old HDDs, it's no surprise that they screw everything.
I didn't have a problem running 6 of them on my SSD, though.

It might have more to do with speed than quality. These units may error out if they spend too long waiting for pages to load from the hdd rather than there being some kind of ACTUAL error.

Yup, I monitored the disk activity through task manager and most of it was writes, probably small random writes which magnetic drives really suck at. I moved my BOINC folder to my SSD and 6 of them ran fine at the same time, didn't have enough Betas in queue to try 12 though. I think I might order up a small 32-40GB SSD for BOINC and page file, been meaning to do that for a while anyways. If it works on the main rig I'll consider it for one of the farm Gulftowns, don't have enough upload bandwidth on the farm to support this project on more than one rig anyways.

Can't be the issue here really.. my SR-2 rig has two Sandforce-SSDs in Raid 0, no Beta WU is gonna bring them down. Yet they all errored out instantly, without even a second of runtime

I had 127 of them without a single error. I was running 12 (on 2-980Xs) and 8 (on a 920 and on a 2x5460) WUs simultaneously and didn't notice any problems with HD access or slowness.

I just d/l'd a few (4) beta WU's round 2 for CEP2 for windows. Id expect better results this time since thats enough to run 12 on a machine at once :)

There's a WU limit of "# of cores/2" on this round of betas as opposed to the usual 1 WU/core limit.
