Someone notified me that 2 x HD5970 requires atleast 70A from psu rails that he did read on guru3d. And on some psu one can't mix different rails on same gpu card (?).

Mine psu are silverstone strider ST1500, each rails are max 25A and max 30 A peaks. This gives just 50A if connect one rail to each gpu card far away from 70A :(

Nothing are mentioned in manual of psu that one can't mix rails on gpu card. seems I might have to order new psu ?

Anyone knows ?

5970 - arround 300W each. so @12V it's 25A. Maybe upto 30A with overclocking/overvolting.

From what I've read around/google were just corsair HX1000 psu that had a flaw in design that had some issues when go sli setup with 2 x 480 or 2 x 5970. Something about those two rails were sharing something with something...
Havn't seen any notes about on mine psu so there aren't similar problem is my guess

Not sure what this has to do w/ water cooling.

And I've used different rails on the same card plenty of times. Hell I've used different PSU's on the same card.

I've only been active in liquid cooling section and I am currently building watercooled pc, just about to finish just a few more cable works and I can fire up system after proper leak testing :) Believe many members in liquid cooling to run crossfire/sli setup. Thx for answer btw! Wasn't sure if one could mix rails on gpu cards. U said multiple rails, even difference psu No need to worry then

I'm using the same PSU with 4 x GTX470 cards, and before that ran a Thermaltake Toughpower with 4 x GTX295 cards.

Its not the PSU you need to worry about its the motherboard. Which one do you have?

That doesn't have anything to do w/ the question he asked though. In your case you weren't likely using more than 1 rail per card.

Apparently, the ST1500 comes with a map explaining which modular attachment points are connected to each rail. Just make sure that each pair of PCI-E plugs have their own rail and you'll never see any trouble.

If only you were right. :(
