m4d, welcome to the sickness

btw, you know, what kinda card are we talking about? 128mb pro or 256mb. if the latter, there's a bunch of people that did flash it to xt (me included) and there's quite a thread on it. "sapphire relabeling 9800xt to 9800 pro". read it here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29788)

Other thread is a nice read, Ty .

I have read load's on this subject but not tryed anything out yet because
i don't want to flash if theres not really any need /performance increase and
because i obviously dont want to mess anything up .

Im currently runing the core @ 414.00 And memory @ 378.00
Nothing special i just wanted to get a little boost for now while the
ramsinks and AS5 settle in a bit and then give overclocking /flashing
a better try .

Anyhow, I have this card:

Lite Retail - Sapphire 9800 Pro 128MB DDR

Core info: R360 - 215R9RBKA11F - N02610.00 - 0335 AA
Memory info: Samsung BGA K4D26 - 3238E - GC2A

Various part numbers:
P/N 102 - A07533 - 00 - AT
P/N 102A0753300 - 000001
Board P/N 103 - A07500 - 00

Im cooling it with a VGA silencer AS5 And Tweakmonster Ramsinks AS5 mixed with Alumina adhesive
mixed one part of each so it wasnt perminent but, "Seems perminent" :D

I was /am a little confused by all the bios's that are floating about
and figured id have a look around my reg forums for some info
but im still confused and as you can imagine i don't want to try
every 9800 pro and xt bios i find to get a good working one .

Basicaly any /all info and suggestions on the subject would greatly be appreciated ...

Ps"
Thanks for the welcome mate, :D ...

There is nothing difficult about flashing 9800 pro to XT to 9800 pro if you do it correctly. I have done it a dozen times experimenting with different benchmark programs and BIOS's and never have a single problem so far.

I agree GFX cards are easily flashed back if there is an error. The only problem is you usually have to do it without a screen or even easier create a batch file that does it for you. I've flashed my card with bios's that i have hex edited and screwed around with and such. Hell yeah the card didnt work half the time but was easily flahsed back. I also flashed it hundreds of times with testing bios's as well!

This is what you want: XT Bios for your R360 core and E-Die for your 8E mem... flash, and crank those memchips up to 400MHz :)

GigaCube.9800XT.128MB.Samsung.E-die.bin

http://www.redxrad.nl/GoT/9800XT/bios/128%20MB%20-%20Samsung/Gigacube/GigaCube.9800XT.128MB.Samsung.E-die.bin

Or you can try this one:

http://www.redxrad.nl/GoT/9800XT/bios/128%20MB%20-%20Samsung/Sapphire/Sapphire.9800XT.128MB.Samsung.E-die.bin

I'm using the GigaCube, no problems here ... 405MHz uncooled memory and artifact-free, couple hundred point increase in 3DM03 ;)

It should all work, I saw the thing flashed to a 9800xt on a 9800se. :D

I have those two bios's but what has mostly been putting me off
is the fact that i havent seen a 128mb XT ?

So are they definately pro bios's hacked /edited or are they genuine
XT bios's ?

And thanks ...

"EDIT"
Forgot to add im wanting to try the flash mostly so i can try to get 20k in
3dmark01SE and a better 2k3 score .

Heres what i got so far
2k1SE - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7761770
2k3 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=2209710

I do need a fresh install and then im hoping 20k here i come but who knows, :D ...

your points are ok. what clocks did you have on your card for that 18.8k 2k1 run? mine are pretty close with a slower cpu and the 9800pro (256) at xt speeds (412/365). from your scores, i'd take it we're running somewhere in the same region of clocks...

yours / mine (dlt3c 1700 @ 2481)
18868 / 19115
247.3 / 253.0
89.6 / 89.7
367.6 / 367.4
190.1 / 193.4
223.8 / 232.5
98.7 / 104.6
145.8 / 141.7

and we're both on dx9 & win xp. switching to dx8 and win 2k should give you (us) an increase pointswise... btw i haven't posted my score on fm.. i'm aiming for 20k aswell :)

to be honest i can't remember exactly if i had it overclocked then .

But i think it would have been Core 414 Memory 378 because thats
what i have it running at now :toast:

This is how im setup at the mo .

Sapphire default bios Overclocked to 414 - 378 .
XP-M2500+ @ 2506mhz 200x12.5 1.875Vcore
2x512 Dual Channel Crucial PC3200 @ 11,3,3,3.0 Default Voltage "Memory doesnt want /like to go higher"
Im running with no page file and ending up with around 800+ megs free before benchmarking .
Computer spec is all in sig but with tictac's d23 3dfire bios and default driver setup on all components .

This 20k is just eluding me by a gnats nacker sooooo"
Im gonna try the flash now and see what i can get with the sapphire and gigacube bios's :D .

Wish me luck and seeya's soon ...

its easy, just get a BIOS file that matches your memory make and ns timing. obviously though just because one bios works on your card, doesnt mean there isnt a better one for it out there ;)
