So today I got a samsung syncmaster 30 inch monitor. For free. This thing seems like a beast.

THE CATCH... is that its totally screwed up. The monitor turns on and the screen cycles through all colours, but with a patch of lines down the middle.

Is this repairable? How much will I be charged to repair it? Or can I do it myself?

If you figured out the issue, please take pics and post what you did.

I think everyone would appreciate the info. I know I would. I need another 30" pronto!

There is a list of known defective monitors (and other electronics) at badcaps site. I found it because my samsung monitor, 225BW, is 1 that has the cheap, defective capacitors in it. I'll never buy another Samsung anything. But if you recap it with real parts it may be fine.

I'm gonna open it up in the next few days and take a look. The exact model is a syncmaster 305t.

I'm really hoping it is just the caps, thatd be lovely. I'd be so happy if i could get a 30 inch monitor out of this.

Hope you get it running. Caps don't have to look bad to be defective. Make note of the brand of capacitors and post on the badcaps display forum. Maybe someone else has already fixed 1 like yours.

Save ya some looking. May help. A few posts down in the link is a link to a service manual. (how to take it apart).
