I've used the Danger Den torture rack for about 1.5 years now just like this:

It works well except I'm finally starting to tire of looking at all the wires and thinking of going the case route again.

Yeah, I bought it thinking it would make testing easier, then I gave up testing...:D Not because of the test rack, just because I got bored and tired of the testing part.

Here is my old build log on skinnee's site:

Just took it apart about two weeks ago, actually, but had it up and running for about a year and a half. Like Martin said, you get tired of seeing all the cables everywhere, and start to appreciate having everything closed off, out of the way. And a case doubles as a shelf :D

And arent such benchtables very good at gathering dust? Another thing why imho it's bad idea for benchtables as everyday main rig, when main purpose of such - ease of swaping components - is not needed/used at all. If you want looks of components .. go windowed or fully acrylic cases.

It depends. Normally yes, but if you filter the fans aiming at the board, you can still get a positive pressure effect, which ensures that a large percentage of the air hitting the board is dust-free. But whenever the computer is off, then yeah, dust will settle quickly.

And while I did do a fair bit of testing for fun, sometimes you just want to try something different, and it can be a great conversation starter :D

My main system is on a bench table because of the ease to water cool and use phase change. It is rather messy at the moment since my new mainboard was DOA.

most of my machines are in a bench set up. the only ones that get a case are the ones in high traffic areas. here's a WC one, and behind it, you can sort of see another bench setup on air.

wes, I'm not picking on you, mkay. . .but, this actually really annoys me when ppl toss these kinds of titles around, especially for a hobby.

the forum has ban'd me from using rack systems, because i failed on many occasions to show them i can handle dust management.

Ohh, I'm no guru. I'm in 7th grade compared to all the highschool grads here when it comes to watercooling. :(

I do like my setup though.

And everything annoys Waterlogged, so don't take it bad wes.;)

This is the setup I was using for radiator testing ... which I do intend to get back to some day :p: How much dust depends on how clean your room environment is. Not really a problem is you're regularly changing out components and giving it a good dusting regularly.

Noted to both Conumdrum & WL.

As much as it is a hobby, in my point of view, there are folks who are gurus regardless, both in seniority & experience but also in their generosity in sharing information. In the English speaking WC world, Conumdrum (amongst many others) counts at one of them.

I agree with you, Wesley! I'd count both Conundrum and Waterlogged as "gurus" and always listen to any advice they offer.

Probably some kind of anti-static cleaner. It really helps keeping the dust of any type of surface.

i ve made a small portable unit out of bits and pieces laying around in the workshop a few months ago.
A base plate out of 8mm black tinted plexiglass from an old AcRyan case.
Some case feet from a Silverstone case.
A Bakelite case handle.
a custom base for PMP-450 and an old 80mm tank on top
combined with two pairs of quick disconnect fittings (2 of them are threaded)
for installation on almost any G1/4 waterblock.
Radiator is a refurbished TFC360 mounted on a Phobya plate
with 3 triebwerk fans and some black painted fan grills.
The whole unit is powered by a single 4pin molex.

It may not be the most effective setup
but it's hassle free and provides adequate cooling for test setups.
