So this thread started on Hardforums in the general hardware section and after 37 posts I think I have the system down. Before I went all out and purchased it all I would love your input.

So to recap to catch you up to speed. My system below in my signature before it hit the bed. It seems the Power Supply or mobo died. In lieu of doing anything. I am retiring it after 2 years and will give the parts away for a steal and am purchasing everything new. I am still torn on what case to purchase as I love my Lian Li Custom modded PC-70, however, EVERYONE is telling me that it will not adequately cool the hotter i7. We also went back and forth on going with the i5 vs i7, however there is a store here selling the i7-930 for $199 and I am told that’s a steal. The system will be used for internet, games(when I find time in my 100hr work week…), movies, excel(more google docs), and eye candy.

CPU: I7-930 $199, I plan to stay with my 120 extreme heatsink
Mobo: Gigabyte X58 $209 Anyone feel otherwise?
VideoCard: Nvidia 460 $199 I really liked the ID of a 3d monitor, but I am torn between this and AMD(in case I get 2 monitors….doubtful though but possible if I find that my desk all of a sudden is a lot smaller without my CRT
Ram G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) $149
PSU Seasonic x750 $149
Monitor HannsG HH-281HPB Black 28" $300
I plan to spend more for a monitor I am using this now:http://www.retrevo.com/s/Iiyama-512-Monitors-review-manual/id/23239bh932/t/1-2/ I would like min a 24" monitor. IT seems the jump from 24" to 28" for a movie / gaming monitor is not worth the 200+dollars. What do you think about 3d?
Sound on board
Case I am open and really love the mobility of the Lian Li cases, what would you recommend? This would up my budget and I am open for it due to the long term potential.

Total Running Cost
Parts: $905
Addon Adjustments:
Monitor: $300 [i] how much more is 3d?
Case: Budget $100-$500 only the higher levels if someone makes a good argument as I want a good case comparable to what my Lian Li was when I first purchased it…

You've obviously done your homework!
I think ASUS mobos are a tad better stability and reliability-wise than Gigabyte, check out the P6X58D-E.
The Corsair 650HX PSU will easily handle those components.
Much prefer Samsung monitors.
Nothing wrong with that case.

The only other option would be to go with the 875 but I felt the i930 because of upgrading in 2 years. However, I can save $100-150 going the 875 route.

What do you think, since you actually have hte same system as I am looking for.... even down to the heatsink. Did you see my photos?

Did you O/C your cpu, if so to what? How hot would you say it runs? I am looking at getting the 460 for $200 and wanted an SLi board so that I could technically add another 460 if I needed it. What do you think?

What do you think?Sorry, can't see photos at work. If you want to go the 1156 route, the i7 875K, contrary to popular belief, is a great OCer. Had one up to 4.4GHz under water. But they will run you about $300. The best bang for the bucks for the 1156 is the i5-750, great price/performance!
However, the $200 i7 930, without doubt, is the best price/performance on the 1366 platform.

Haven't gotten around to OC the 930 yet, still putting stuff together.

Here's a great thread on SLI'ed 460s, the best price/performance vidcard out there: http://forums.epczone.net/threads/359-A-Pair-of-460s-on-a-P6T-in-Haf-Log

i OC'd my i7 930 to 4Ghz with no problem - 1.29v, and load temps @ 65-70 depending on ambient. never above 71-72c.

which GA X58 board would you get? I love the way the Rampage III Extreme looks, but of course, it's about $100 more expensive than the GA boards. I'm loving my UD5 as well..

I don't have much experience with the new Nvidia cards, so I don't have any credible advice on the matter.

I actually have not chosen which board to get yet, what would you recommend for the MOBO option?

If your going with socket 1366 And using the bloomfield 930, stick with a gigabyte board, preferably the UD7 or the Ud5, The REXIII is more a enthusiast board used with high end cpus such as the gulftown 980x, thats the way i like to see it, Ive hit 4,4 stable on my 930 but running it @ 4.3 with only 1.31 vcore, 61c Load with the ud7 and thats with a old bios,so go figure hehe :)

As for monitor i would ditch that crappy monitor you listed and go with the asus VW266h, its 26" monitor full resolution @ 1920x1200 instead of 1080.. with a response rate of 2ms which is great ! Or go with a cheaper samsung monitor ;)

I have been VERY happy with my GA-UD5 -- it keeps cool, provides plenty of power, is very easy to OC with, and has 3x CF/SLi, which is always a plus.

I bought mine at Microcenter for about $260 + an i7 930 for $200.

i wasn't sure which board i was going to get at the time, but i bought the ud5 and haven't look at anything else seriously since...

i must admit tho, i really like the look of the RIIIE and Evga Classified :]

I went with the Gigabyte UD5 and I am putting the system together this weekend. Monitor wise I am stuck between the two Asus models
VW266h (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236047&Tpk=VW266h)vs VE276Q (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236091)

With rebates there is a $75 difference in price. What is the difference between the two resolutions and makes one better for the other? I plan to watch movies, games, and clerical work on it.

i really love my p6x58d premium, i can hit 4ghz easy with 1.20v and stock cooling on my 930. ive always gone asus, thought really hard about a gigabyte, but went with an asus and im not sad at all, actually quite happy. Asus never lets me down.
