I'm looking at the following:

1) HP ZR30w: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF05a/382087-382087-64283-72270-3884471-4194577.html

2) HP LP3065: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF05a/382087-382087-64283-72270-3884471-3297215.html

3) Dell 3007WFP-HC: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=222-7175

4) LG W3000H-Bn: http://www.lg.com/us/computer-products/monitors/LG-lcd-monitor-W3000H.jsp

Trying to stay in the $1,000 to $1,500 range.

I'm unclear on the technology, but it looks like the ZR30w is H-IPS, while the W3000H, Dell 3007WFP, and HP LP3065 are S-IPS.

Anyone have experience with or knowledge of any of these monitors?

Personally, I'd get the H-IPS panel over the S-IPS from that list. H-IPS panels don't have that coating that gives the S-IPS the sparkle effect I think, plus they have slightly better contrast ratio.

I have a Samsung 305T Plus myself, which uses S-PVA technology. The high end S-PVA panels have higher contrast ratio (they have the deepest black levels), lower temperatures and energy usage compared to IPS panels.

IPS panels have wider viewing angles however, compared to S-PVA, but if you use your monitor for gaming and surfing the net like I do, then you'll never notice it (plus the 30 inch S-PVA panel has improved viewing angles compared to low end models). IPS panels have slightly lower input lag as well..

All in all though, the Samsung 305T Plus is the best monitor I've ever owned bar none. One big advantage of getting this monitor, is that it comes precalibrated from the factory, which means you get the most accurate colors straight out of the box.

With the other monitors, you'll need a calibration tool to get the best out of them, which will cost you more money unless you already have one.

Too bad that don't make that monitor anymore. It appears that Samsung is out of the 30" 2560x1600 monitor business altogether.

Wow, I think you may be right. I just did a quick google scan, and I didn't see any retailers carrying it! Amazon had one in stock, but it looked like it was the original version.

The plus version has a wider color gamut (103 if I remember), and HDCP capability.

In that case, I'd say go for the LG W3000H-Bn. It uses the same panel as the latest Dell 3008WFP, minus the extra inputs and the scaler....which unless you need them, aren't worth it imo because they just increase input lag.

The HP ZR30w seems to use a S-IPS panel, and not H-IPS btw.

what about if you want to setup Tri-Monitors, then does the viewing angle really matter? (even though all the monitors will be facing you basically)

Also the LG seems to have the best response time even though its same panel as the Dell ?

The specs page on that LG says it only has D-Sub and S-video inputs. That can't be right.

Ever considered an NEC 30"?

I got mine for $999 + shipping directly from NEC. It was a refurb, but I can't even tell. It could have simply been a return item that had no issues.
(I don't see any listed on their site, but you can always call them. I had good customer support.)
