I had an 8 port switch made by d-link and it worked fine. I could probably find the model # if you want

Bought one anyway just to see if I see any improvement (NetGear 24 Prosafe 10/100/1000 Smart Switch GS724T v2)

But since I've run it for a day I'd say that most of my problems seem to come from either my connection or the modem.

I observe the router graphs showing uploads at full speed but still not able to keep up with the work no matter how I configure the connections. (switch, opt interface bridged to lan or original TRENDnet router)

...and lots of log entries of connectivity problems...I guess 50Meg download needs better than 1.5ish Meg upload

What I found works best for me is 10mbit/machine..
IE: 30mbit= 3 machines..
Try to get it all out of one machine and it just won't handle the load..
Machine doesn't matter, sammy to dual westmere, same issue..

Dave you are right. AFAIK this is due to a limit of one of the components of MJ12 ( microsoft's .net framework) which is close to 10 mbit.

Linux versions use Mono :

[QUOTE]Mono is a free and open source project to create an Ecma standard compliant, .NET-compatible set of tools

i chopped some parts of the original source :)

Regarding how much client can handle I would recommend to take a look at whom knows MJ12 better ( by far) and who is also a every good friend and person ( refic) :) :

Are you talking about a particular setting? or just running 4-5 machines if on 50Meg.?

On it's own my qx rig will run set at 999/200 but only produce 6,000000 ish @90% success rate....run two machines and each has to run sub 500/100 amd total output drops to 8,000000 to maintain the 90%...run 3 machines and my normal browsing suffers unless they are set down to 200/100 when the output is pants. Whatever I have set to date I have not seen more than 60 buckets open

Hmmm. What settings do you have under archiving? I always set them as high as the go (128 dictionary size, 16mb). The only other thing I can think of is maybe a new modem?

Really? I thought it was closer to 20-25mbit per Windows machine...There are spikes when crawling, as to be expected but I usually average around 20mbit
