I've been trying for the last day or so to get the 3.2 Cat's to work with my 9800XT & can't seem to get it to work together.

Seeing that most of the guys running 3DMark01 with 3.2 or earlier Cat's, I wanna try them out but don't know how.

Can someone point me in the right direction pls?

I've tried DH mod tool for mobility but that don't work.

I ain't sure if this is the right forum to post this question on but it's related to 3DMark nonetheless.

TIA

edit: I have posted up a zip file with the modified .INI/.INF files for Cat's 3.1/3.2/3.4 in my last post on this thread for those who want a quick fix or don't want to have to do it themselves.

It took me a few hours to modify the files I mentioned as I did the mod properly to accept all the latest hardware except Mobility versions where you can just use DH's Mobility modder.

Instructions are included with my last post & I'll put in a txt file with the instructions in the downloadable zip file.

Cheers:toast: :toast: :toast:

I got the best results from the 3.7's but have not tried anything under those. Are you trying to install the full package or just the drivers?

Trying to just install the drivers.

Right now I can't get rid of all traces of the 3.8's but am running the CP of 3.2's with 3.8 drivers.

I suppose you can use 3.7's without modifications?

Yes, it worked well for me.

I ended up modyfing the INF files with Cat 3.10 INF & installing it that way. Just overiding the original 3.8's with my modified 3.2's (w/3.10 INF files).

Kinda works. Just a problem with the monitor ATM.

Anyone with a better idea of getting Cat's older than 3.5 to work with 9800XT?

install the R9800 Pro driver from the cat 3.2 or so manually.

before hand, find the ati2mag file and open it up and find the R9800 pro listed under modes and rename it the R9800 XT.

there you go.

glad to help-except after reading my post, I am impressed you could understand what I said ;)

kunaak,

just before you replied I had to open up both 3.2 & 3.10 INF files & check them for whatever I needed to be copied over & all.

I didn't want to ask more as I wanna learn as I go along.
Was just gonna rename the ati2mag file & then edit it if that's what you meant anyways.

Good to know this stuff. Was always wondering why some guys were using these older drivers for more points when I couldn't.

Cheers :toast:

it's roughly the same as tjhis guide here I made.

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22606

except you do it with the ATI2mag file instead.
part of being "Xtreme" is learning to get every inch of performance from something you can.

software is one of the biggest things most overclockers overlook, but one of the simplest, cause once it's done, your done.
no folling with it any more ;)

kunaak,

I'm on my rig with the 9800XT now & am looking for that ati2mag.sy_ file. I can open it up woth notepad but it changes to some language that nobody in this universe (cept the code-writers of course) understands.

I've just finished reading guide you linked me to & I think I figured which file/files to mod.
I'm thinking it's the "CX_08040.inf" "CX_08040.INI" & "INSTALL.INI" files which I have to modify.

Once I extracted both the 3.10's as well as the 3.2's to my HDD, I went to the folder where I extracted it & opened up both their "CX_08040.INI" (Cat 3.2) & "CX_12924.INI" (Cat 3.10) files & basically copied whatever I noticed the earlier version didn't have.

Did the same for the other 2 files I've mentioned.

I'm thinking you were saying that I should've just replaced the "r300" file names with "r360" ones.

I have one prob with the CP right now when I open it up I get lines across my screen. I'll play with these setting & stuff first & report back.

Prob do it the way you said in renaming those files.

ah your right.
well I remember playing around trying to help Opp sometime ago to get the r9800 pro to work with the cat 2.5 and that was the main file I messed with-switching files and every other driver trick I know.

the funny thing about renaming drivers, is you can rename them almost anything you want :)

I have my 9800XT working with cat 3.1. Just followed OPP's Guide (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22226)

Skyline,

Good to see that all is well.

I have to re-do the drivers as I still get these lines across my screen doing it my method.

Maybe one of the moderators can actually make "Opp's Guide" a sticky for ppl like me with 9800XT's that have trouble looking around becos of the wrong search string.

Thanks.

I'm going to try & post up the 3 INF/INI files for the Modded XP 3.1 Cat if I can figure it out.

I've posted it as a zip file. Just extract it somewhere on your hard drive & inside the extracted folder you will find 3 subfolders named 3.1, 3.2, 3.4.

Deepending on what drivers you want to use, just copy/paste it to the appropiate place & click "yes" to replace original file.

Say I'm installing the 3.1's to use with my 9800XT. I'd run the ATI 3.1 cats but not go through with the install, just extract the .exe file & cancel the installation at after its extracted & wants to go ahead.

I just extract to the default place "C:\ATI\support\wxp-w2k-radeon-7-84-030228a1-008040c-efg". The I would copy the "Install.INI, C2_*****.INI & CX_*****.INI" files & paste it to that folder where the original ATI 3.1's were extracted to & overwrite the files in that folder with my own.

Do the same to the with the INF files in "C:\ATI\support\wxp-w2k-radeon-7-84-030228a1-008040c-efg\2KXP_INF" in my case.

Once done, just go to the "C:\ATI\support\wxp-w2k-radeon-7-84-030228a1-008040c-efg folder & run the setup.exe file.

You'll get the message that "these drivers aren't WHQL certified", install anyway.

I have modded the files to accept all the latest hardware except maybe the Mobility versions in which case you can just use DH Mobility Modder from Patje.

I'm in the process of modding up to Catalyst 3.7 or whatever version that doesn't support all the latest ATI hardware & will post it up as soon as I'm done.

Hope this helps. It works for 9800XT/9800Pro/9600XT/9600pro etc as I basically looked through Catalyst 3.10 & copied all the relative hardware that the earlier Cat's didn't support.
