View Full Version : Planning a cheap cooling setup for my PII 965 Black

it also needs to beat out my current air cooling setup... Xigmatek s1283 with Delta 90cfm pwm fan

right now my PII 965 Black @ 3.8GHz maxes out in the lower 50's C, with a 20c to 22c room temp

I am not sure on what to run... so far I have chosen the following:

I am not sure if I want a T line or a res (I have only used T lines in the past, but the cylinder shaped Res looks neat)

I am debating between a few different pumps? Swiftech MCP 355? Swiftech MCP655-B (no speed control), via aqua 1300 (about $20, I had one back in the day and it worked great, I could build a relay system for it for around $5)

and then there is the radiator... it will be top mounted... but I am not sure what I want to get... I will be getting it from Jab-tech, unless someone else has a better idea... all I know is I want a triple

fans, I was planning on using Yate loon high speeds and trimming them down with a home made speed controller (maybe I will just by one the yates dont pull too much juice)

its going in (or rather on to of) a NZXT Gamma case

this is what I am thinking so far

Block: Enzotech SCW-REV.A $47 shipped (any better ideas for the price, maybe something from jab-tech, is Dtek any good?)

Tubing: (15') ClearFLEX 60 Tubing 1/2" ID / 3/4" OD $13.35

Clamps: (15) Plastic Tubing Clamps - Black $6.00

which should I get? other ideas? help me narrow it down

Swiftech MCR320-QP-K $50
jab-tech

seems to be decent performer, looks like with medium Yates it should be equal performance to my Bonniville heater core with Scythe Kaze Ultra fans...
---
Black Ice GT stealth 360 $50
jab-tech

Seems to get great reviews but can not find anything concrete
---
Black Ice Pro III $46
Danger Den
---
Black Ice XtremeIII $70
Danger Den

Can not seem to find any reviews
--------

Decided against:

XSPC RS360 $50
reason: gets it's butt kick by the swiftech MCR360

Definitely Swiftech rad. All the rest mentioned have high fpi = working less effectively with silent fans.

Rs 360 does perform the best with lower CFM fans but it a tad more pricey, go with the MCR rad, quite cheap and only performs a few C less...

Johnny87: don't confuse RX with RS rads from XSPC.

how does the Black ICE Extreme III perform?

Also how will this compare to my previous what rig?
-Enzotech Sapphire
-D5 standard
-Bonniville Heater core, Shroud with 25mm spacing
-2 Sycthe Kaze ultra 120, 3000RPM, wide open, pulling through, all fresh air

well I will not be getting the XSPC RS360 as the Swiftech whoops up on it and yet cost the same ammount

Yup, the swiftech MCR would be your best choice IMO. Though if you plan on using those UK 3K fans without undervolting them too much, the Black Ice GTX might also be a good choice for you:

At higher RPM (+1800), the GTX whoops every radiator on this chart.

Then the MCR is the way to go :).

Yeah, it's an aquarium pump. Very weak compared to modern Liquid cooling pumps and head pressure is what you need for today's blocks.
