Planning a CPU upgrade and just wondering if i should pay the $50 extra for the 3440? does the Asus Maximus III GENE support it? is the $50 worth the hyperthreading and supposed better Ocing?

It's Xeon not Xenon ;) Well, the i5 750 does have higher clocks but it doesn't have Hyper-Threading. So on i5 750 you'll have 4 cores, but on Xeon, you'll have 8 cores (4 physical and 4 virtual). They both use LGA1156, so yes, you can use both on that mobo. Xeon would certainly perfom better, especially in multi-threaded applications.

i had one xeon 3450 on asus p55ws-sc.
did not oc very well, over 4,2ghz sucks lot of volt-but this is maybe batch and luck related.

tested a lot of 750īs and some did very well and no prob for all over 4,2 with reasonable volts.

if you really need hyperthreading i would go for i7-920.

Maybe "xenon" is the Chinese counterfeit of "xeon."
