A place near where I live is having a contest. It's a random drawing, and if you win one of the prizes is a choice between a Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3 slim. My dad already has a Wii, and I wouldn't pick it any way, so that leaves me with a choice between a Xbox 360 and PS3 slim. I'm leaning towards the Xbox 360, but for the PS3 you don't need an online account, and I'm pretty sure it was built-in WiFi, while the Xbox360 doesn't. I play mainly FPS games, but also some racing games.

the ps3 is a better console all round it has a much better controller hardware wise, built in wifi, better console games (aka non shooters). the 360 is only good for piracy IMO

OK, going with the PS3 slim if I win. NiNjA 4eVA!1!1! But I like the Xbox controller SOOOO much more. Is there a way to hack one to work with the PS3?

the 360 controller is crap hardware wise, i guess the form may be better for some but the dpad, dead space on the analogue sticks are bad and the triggers are bad. so just get used to using the ps3 one

i do think that logitech has a 360 controller that works on the ps3 though

Thing is, it's a PS3 Slim. If they were offering an older model PS3 with backwards compatibility, Linux support (..for the time being..), and all the other nice little bits like the card reader, I'd choose the PS3 every time.

What kind of Xbox 360 is it? If it's an Elite, especially the new Jasper bundle that includes Forza 3 and Halo ODST, you absolutely can't beat that. Two great games, a large hard drive, and the latest generation of Xbox 360.

I have a Jasper Xbox 360, and it runs extremely cool under load. The 65nm GPU made a massive difference.

I disagree. I find the Xbox 360 controller to be all around wonderful, with the glaring exception of the terrible D-pad. They're also nigh indestructible. I've seen these things beaten and abused, but they've never stopped working.

Having better games is arguable, as the Xbox 360 has some exclusives that I prefer to the PS3 exclusives.

PS3 with the "Other - OS " a.k.a Linux was really a good deal... It was really stupid to cut off this option.. Buy the one which has cheaper games and the owners cheat less (online)

I have to disagree, I much prefer the Xbox 360's analog sticks compared to the PS2/PS3 sticks.

I guess it's all personal preference, whatever works for you.

i was not talking about the shape of the controller or of sticks, the 360 has a giant amount of dead space and it has uneven pressure needs to move it, MS used 1 spring per axis so there is a barrier go out of the dead space, they also used buttons that have a huge amount of travel and the triggers wear out way to fast. the shape of the stick i guess could be better and i was not commenting on the controller shape just the hardware. thats why ive been waiting for the razor one as they fixed the spring and travel problems but wired only.

u also have to admit that the dpad is crap on the 360, its completely useless for anything other than a weapon selector

my solution to xbox's crappy analogue sticks:

ps2 analogue sticks

dose that fix the innards or did u just change the sticks

It's free, I'm pretty sure it's the Arcade version, which you have to get a $99 HDD and a can of black paint to be playable. I'm think of getting the PS3, just because I want the Elite version of the Xbox and it would be kinda dumb to win a Xbox, then buy a better Xbox. So later down the road I will have both a PS3 and an Xbox 360. I like the Xbox's more refined design, the controllers are more comfortable in my hand, and I haven't noticed any problems with the joysticks and I don't use D-pads much. But I'm not hard-core of a gamer, having just played them at friends house.

Edit: Rechecked the rules, it's an Xbox arcade.

Very simple to answer, what do you want in a console ?

Xbox 360, Better game selection, nicer controller IMO, infinitely better online gaming.

PS3, Less prone to breakdown, better all round as a multimedia player, not a bad selection of games.

I have quite a few friends who have PS3s who want to get rid and get Xbox 360s, but i also have a few friends who wouldnt mind getting PS3s.

My Suggestion

Buy both.

i have a pc, ps3 and 360 the 360 gets shooters that the pc dose, and the ps3 gets platformer and action adventure that the others do not. so unless u want to pirate teh 360 is useless IMO.

also u dont have to buy a 360 HDD u can use a usb HDD or thumb drive and allocate up to 16GB for 360 use.

blu ray, ratchet and clank and 3d dot hero make the ps3 IMO its a real console and not something trying to be a locked down pc with shooters and a controller

The PS3 has really poor game choices though in comparison to the 360 unfortunately. The majority of people cant afford the sorts of PCs us guys have on here so they settle for Consoles. The 360 having the biggest and best game selection along with the best online gaming community really makes it a far superior console if you intend on playing games, If you want it for multimedia like Blu Ray then the PS3 is the better choice.

but if some1 is posting on XS its normally assumed that they have a gaming rig or one that can play games, anything thats worth playing on the 360 comes out on the ps3 or pc except for halo. as a 1 console only i guess i could see the 360 being a good pick, or if u want to play online and your friends all have it but to accompany a pc the ps3 is better. i also like the online better on the ps3 for street fighter as 1) the ps3 controller works for it so u dont have people with arcade pads for 100% of your matches destroying u since they have a better controller and 2) there are less kids screaming in the mic. i dont know about online for other things as thats pc territory or ps3 exclusives for me, though madden seams the same as thats the only cross platform i play online with a console.

If you get a fairly recent 360 it will less likely break down. Mine is a Jasper board and this thing blow cool/warm air while playing a game, my old 360 (xenon) blew out hot air lol.

I prefer 360 for:
Game selection (Gears of War, Sports games etc...)
Multiplayer/Online play (easier to party up, less lag, more people to play with)
(only thing is you pay for subscription but it really isnt much $15/year?)

I prefer the PS3 for:
Exclusive PS3 games (Little Big Planet, Dot Heroes, Uncharted etc...)
Blu-ray videos
(free online but... it sucks haha)

There are games such as Red Dead Redemption that looks better(2xAA)/loads faster on the 360 as opposed to the PS3. The PS3 may have a more "superior" hardware but usually for a mutiplatform game, developers easily create games on the 360 and end up porting it to the PS3 making them look crappy (plus PS3 plays at 640p rather than 720p) and on top of the the 360 has an equivalent for maybe a X1900XT while the PS3 has something like a 7800GTX, so even if you have a faster unit still doesnt make it look better.

I prefer the 360 for games and the PS3 for multimedia. There will be games running better on the PS3 than the 360 and vice versa so you cant really say which is the "best" or the "better" console. I usually lean towards which console most of your friends have if you like playing multiplayer and if you want a blu-ray player (which I already have as well) then the PS3 has one.

OK, I'm just going to barrow the LHC and load a PS3 and Xbox 360 in each side and smash them together into a XPBSO3X360

the ps3 isnt the one doing 640 instead of 720 the 360 is one doing 520-640, the ps3 is rendering almost everything at its display resolution.

as for the games, it seams like every1 is saying 360 has shooters (gears, halo) but thats a shooter so it should not be played with a controller, and the 360 is the primary dev platform for most places but what good multi platform games are there that are not from rockstar and are not on the pc, rockstar makes things work on the ps3 properly even if its a little slower as with gta the ps3 had better textures im assuming red dead has the same. for th sports games what makes the 360 better, madden and the nhl games seam the same, fifa and pro evo are better on the ps3 and for the mlb u have the show thats a sony exclusive and it destroys mlb 2k.

the game selection seams a clear winner for the ps3 to me as the 360 gets shooters and thats it for what it has worth playing as 360 only, sure there are the bad shovelware games may play better but for the good games that come out ive never seen a problem with the ps3 or the 360 and the differences are not noticeable without screen shots. i personalty like story and action adventure games so that leads me to say ps3 is better but then there are also the online games and sony seams to have the advantage there, things like fat princess, pixel junk and i think that those beat sploshion man

also there is motion control were the ps3 has the super wii and the 360 has natal, and since natal has no buttons i dont think that it will be at all useful, not that motion control is all to usable to start with

it really comes down to what you want...

as for actually playing games online, by far chose the xbox360. PSN is no match for xbox live.

but if you want a great bluray player, that can play a few really awesome 1st party games, than get the ps3.

i have 2 of each and i have to admit live is better... if you want to play with friends whereas if you have bad internet connection the xbox will crap out far before the PS3

That's entirely dictated by which console your friends have. If my best friend, my brother, and my uncle all have ps3s and i want to play some burnout with them online, what are the chances of me buying a 360?

If you're going to be playing online, go with the one your friends play.

From an online perspective my nod goes to the 360, same for its controller design. I own a PS3 however as I wanted something with built in wifi and I also half bought it for the blu ray. Mine is a 2nd gen so it still has some backwards compatibility and I do own a dozen or so PS2 games still. Obviously this isn't relavent with the slim.

If It weren't for the fact I mainly game on PC though, I'd have bought a 360 in a heartbeat. My ps3 is more a media center than anything now ( tversity = win )

Devs have done it on both, recently [and reasonably high profile] was Red Dead on PS3. I admit that it is more common on the 360 though.

no. they both render at 1280x720 with a fair amount of games using 2xaa. since r500 is a tile based renderer it gets 2xaa for free so more games have aa on 360.

It's pretty sad how few titles actually render in 1080p, and I feel they shouldn't be able to upscale a game and advertise it running at 1080p.

Some games, such as Borderlands, appear to be upscaled from a terribly low resolution.

Also, it's fairly common knowledge among those who know anything about the Xbox 360 hardware that it has an additional eDRAM die that offers virtually free 4x anti-aliasing. Unfortunately, virtually no games take advantage of this hardware. I can't even think of one.

It's all ridiculous. I mainly play my Xbox 360 for some of the exclusives, and with my friends, who all own Xbox 360s as well.

I've used a 360 and I own a PS3, personally I'd pick the PS3. Quite a few good games are priced very closely to the 360 versions. £20 for Dantes inferno, £25 for FF13, etc. You also get a good bluray player in the PS3 as well as a DVD player, whatever those features may be worth to you. The PS3 also has a much more comfortable controller over the 360s controller as well IMO. Then for the PS3 you also have stuff like absolutely free online access, frequent firmware updates (if your into updating your PS3 firmware every tiny change they make that is) and all round its just a generally better console. Theres some truely epic games available for PS3 such as MGS4, God Of War 3, and a dumptruck full of others.
