30" IPS LCD purchase

looking between these two monitos-- LG W3000H and the Dell 3007whp-hc

I can get either one for 700-800 refirb.I would be replacing my 7 yr old CRT flatscreen

Due to no scaler the these monitors are of interest due to min. input lag.

The LG is about 10% more than the Dell and some online opinions say the LG has low input lag and better quaility screen on par with the dell 3008 LCD but with less lag.

Any monitor I buy will be a long time investment IYO between the two which has low input lag and be a great gaming 30" monitor???

I have color calibration tester so I can balance the monitor.

If you have even a better monitor in the 700-800 price range please mention that too.

I can't make a recommendation between the two. I can only say ouch, 30" LCD monitor prices are so bad. You can get a 42" Plasma TV for that money. Yeah I understand the resolution difference and the intended viewing distance and usage. At least they aren't still $1,000+ like they used to be.

For Photography though you can't get any better. It would be nice, but outside of what I'm willing to spend at this time.

Well you didn't say what the use would be. If it's primarily for gaming and movie watching, Soul is right, there's some pretty decent TVs at good prices, though I'm not sure I'd go plasma. Panasonic LCD TVs have very low input lag. Their last yr's TC-L37G1 is 1080p, has very good motion processing (Motion Pro 3), and very low lag. It's getting a bit hard to find though. I passed one up for $720 recently and I'm beginning to wonder if I should have bought it. This year the smallest 1080p with motion processing they have in an LCD is the 42" TC-L42U25 with Motion Pro 4. I've already seen it for $709 at Amazon, the the price just went up a bit.

Another thing you need to consider is if you buy a 30" with no scaling, you'd better hope the games you play will all run at 2560x1600, or you'll have to use the GPU to scale with.

I have a water cooled 5870 it should do the trick and I mainly play Crysis MWLL mod.

If I put a Plasma on my wall to use as my monitor my wife would kill me or laugh me out of the house.

Its an idea but I use this comp for gaming, surfing , photoshop editing , and other normal things

Well the Dell actually uses the LG screen...they just throw it into a different package and do what they want with it, but the panel itself is the same.

My suggestion is to take a look at digitalversus.com and compare each monitor. Both will have significant input lag, but imo its all a joke cause no one really uses CRT anymore. So anyone ur playing with is also experiencing the same input lag nowadays.

found a U2711 refirb for $685 think I will go that direction. In "game Mode" Lag was only 4-5 ms higher than the 3007-HC and should fit on my desk.

Reading over specs its a 16:9 not 16:10

I want more area than my 20" viewable CRT if Iam going to downgrade input lag and contrast to get it.

The U2711 is 7" larger but only 1" taller and 7.39" wider :(

Also, I'm not stating that everyone is experiencing the same amount of lag...of course some displays do have more then others. All I'm stating is that when it is being measure, people compare it directly to CRTs that have 0 lag, but who use those nowadays? So even though ur's might have say 20-30ms and the best another has is around 10ms give or take a few...the difference is around 10-20ms and in all scenarios I don't see that making a HUGE difference to your gameplay. Maybe 1 time here or there, but not a complete drop.

I can get a refirb for under 700 but have to wait a week for the guy to get it.

I guess after waiting 8 yrs to upgrade I guess a week won't kill me.

Still seems wrong a 4yr old LCD 30" should be alot less money.

Me having 20ms and another person having 10ms isnt a huge difference, but many displays have in excess of 50-60ms which creates basically unplayable situations for anyone who games more than casually.
