I'm looking to upgrade from my old 22" Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 200 CRT. I'm looking for a 23"-24" LCD in around the $200-$300 price range, but I would consider going over $300 a bit for a quality monitor, just not too much. As far as usage is concerned, I am going to be gaming so having a monitor that's good for gaming is a must. However, since most of the time I'm using my computer for things other than gaming (office work, web browsing, web design/scripting), I don't want to make sacrifices there either. I also want the option to connect my Xbox 360 up to it. I haven't decided yet if I want to run it on my 32" 720p television or run on a 23-24" at 1080.

Originally the ASUS VW246H interested me, mainly due to price, but after doing some reading I'm not so sure anymore. I've done a lot of reading on different panel types and more specifically TN vs IPS panels and that also led me towards the NEC EA231WMI. However, I'm not sure if it would be any good for gaming. Also, no HDMI which I guess isn't too bad. I'll only need HDMI if I'm using my 360 and even then I could use an HDMI-DVI cable. The better color and text reproduction as well as viewing angles does interest me though as the way my desk is setp up the monitor is slightly above eye level anyway.

Anybody have experience gaming with the NEC or have other recommendations for an all around good monitor with a decent price tag?

At that price tag you won't buy all around LCD IMO.

You have to decide between 24" 16:10 1920x1200 TN gaming/xbox and <24" IPS 1920x1080 16:9 better color/angles .

It all depends on what you do, but 16:10 is much nicer in web browsing/office work/web designing from techinical side. But it will have not so good color as IPS.

I say you take option 1 and return it if angles are no good for you. Verticaly you can setup TN. Go to some shop and look at different monitors.

Iam replacing my Mits Diamond Plus 200 too. I picked so far the Dell 3007-HC but with your budget I would look at this link

http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-LP2475W-LCD-24-Widescreen-Monitor-much-see-/200472684812?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item2ead1a690c

its less than 5,000 and is IPS with decent input lag specs.

Question about the U2410. Can it display 1:1? Say I send it 1280x720, would it display black around all sides?
