I have a question for you guys...I wasnt sure where to post this, but since I have been in this topic the most I've come to trust you guys.

I'm about to install my GTX 480s, I'm running dual loops and a i7 920 overclocked to 4.0 ghz. Not to mention other devices, lights etc.

Now alot of us here have rigs similar to this...here's my question

What UPS do you use on your rig?

I have a 1250W Evo Galaxy and the closest UPS from APC i could find that comes close to handling 1200+ watts is a server UPS for ~$900...

..I mean i know this is XtremeSystems, but come on isnt there other options?

why do you want ups?

Most for power conditioning and a safe power off in case of power fluctuations or outages.

Undervolting the system could damage the processor or the memory....and that's no good

That assumes that you'll actually be maxing out your PSU, which won't happen.

Get a Killawatt (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882715001&cm_re=killowatt-_-82-715-001-_-Product) and see how much power your pulling from the wall under full load, then get UPS according to what you see.

Thanks...that seems like it might do the trick.

I know that dual GTX 480s can pull 829W at load...so i guess with that I'm already in the money...yar

seconded.

Also, I got a 1500VA from CyberPower and it has a nice monitoring system that can shutdown my machine if I ever need it in case of a power outage. It's heavy so find a place with free shipping (or cheap deal on shipping) :)

BTW it's got a front LED panel that can tell me power draw. So far, highest I went was 650w with a 30inch + 24inch + 4.2ghz q9650 and trifire 4870.

Hmm. Why put displays on UPS too? Just lessens time on battery power && rises power requirements/price of UPS. Connecting 2 big lcd-s directly would probably shave ~ 150-200W off.

Well I could take 1 lcd off the battery, but as it stands, I still get 6-12min of battery time at 500-650watts. That's ample time to close my stuff properly. As it stands, there's no need for me to NOT put the LCD's on UPS ;)

But yeah, computer alone doesn't pull more than 450-500w with IBT+Furmark at extreme.

Yep, if power goes out, you can't see what is going on to save and shut down if at least one monitor not on battery.

I was looking at the Cyber Power, but went APC as it has the master and slave outlets. When comp shuts down, power is killed to speakers and moniter so no need to worry about standby adding a couple dollars to electric bill.

Also, watch Staples, Office Max, Best Buy, etc. I found mine at Staples on sale for a nice price. :)

If power goes out, UPS software should shutdown PC automatically on battery low signal from UPS via serial or usb cable .. afterall, it may happen even when nobody's arround. So ups-ed displays are only for timeframe where powerout happens with someone @keyboard.

Well, I normally shut my monitors off if I leave and leave the computer running. No need to have them running if your not there, so they probably wouldn't be pulling very much power anyways. :)

Millertime: nevertheless fact that more powerful ups (read = more expensive) for that is needed. Imho it's wiser to spend money elsewhere :)
