I bought this block used and heard something rattling inside. I opened it up and noticed 4 small metal rods just moving freely inside. What are they for?

Maybe they're for casting that part of the block and they were supposed to be taken out?

they float in the holes so im sure you just heard them rattling ..they probably fell out when you opened it up.

I think the alignment pins are there so that when you put the cover on you do not torque the o-ring out of its groove by sping the top left or right

Haha funny theories people comes up with to explain how something ends up somewhere they're not supposed to. :D

+1 to the people that said they hold the mounting brackets in. If you want to switch sockets, you need to remove the four outer pins to swap mounting brackets. Don't discard or lose the pins either, they really are important :p:

Horrible design choice though, IMO.

It's still the stupidest system for changing socket configurations. Having to completely disassemble the block, change mount brackets and rear plates (which cost extra and aren't included) is a nonsense system considering the much more elegant and simpler systems from almost every other block manufacturer....manufacturers that also include mounts for every major in-use socket on the market with the purchase of the block. Odd that Watercool feels the need to gouge its customers like that.

Its one of the rasons why I went with the EK HF for teh new build, I have a HK CU on my current i7 but was not impressed with the mounts or the fact that when I purchased it months ago it was PIA finding a 1366 back plate instock and they were $$$.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. I'm saddled with an HK 3.0 LT, too. Got both the 775 and 1366 mounts for it, too. Bought it for a C2Q and moved it to an i7 920 when I upgraded. Had to spend too much $$ for the conversion in my opinion, esp. considering that the EK, Swiftech and Koolance blocks all come complete for all sockets.

As soon as I can dump this HK off on someone, it's either the EK or Koolance to replace it....ASAP!
