I saw a little conversation regarding this somewhere so I figured I'd post here and see what all you pros think.

Will a EK D5 or bitspower pump top lower noise or vibration of this pump? Or is it basically for looks and flow rate increase only? If a new top will help with sound and vibration I think ill get one. I'm also thinking the additional flow rate will help now that I'm adding the GTX 480 into my loop.

Thoughts?

i don't think that it will decrease the noise but i think it might decrease the vibration of the pump which leads in a decrease of the noise

Yes:
I got an EK water blocks replacement top for the MCP655, it's much quieter.

And check those Bundymania youtube videos:

Btw... These forums usually don't know what silence is.. Like DDC 355 is totally silent :ROTF:

Edit..

Haha ya u make a point. Many use 3000 rpm fans so a D5 is silent to them. But its just as loud as my yate loon medium fans..

Ill check those links when ibget home. If it cuts down vibration n noise ill be happy

when you have ultra kaze 3000RPM,Delta or panaflo High CFM fans you will find the mcp 355 pump to be as quiet as a mouse  so users who say mcp 355 is a silent pump must be using high RPM fans :D

With the EK block, I fond no change in noise. I never found the D5 to be loud in the first place...

And yes, I have 3 ultra Kaze 3000's (not to mention 4 other 120mm fans, 2 250mm fans, 1 92mm, 1 70mm, 2 60mm, 1 Asus chipset fan, and 2 40mm fans (Corsair Dominator fans)...).

Well it was louder than expected when I was told it would be silent.. but I don't think its that loud really. But I'm getting GT fans n it might be louder than those and the loudest part in system. So that's why I'm looking if a top will help with sound or vibration.

I am surprised that the D5 top makes a difference in the noise the pump makes... I might have to try this out -- I have to run my D5 on 3 or so before its quiet.

 Outside of my first build that used a Sunon KD1212PMB3-6A, I've used primarily Yate Loon SM under volted to roughly 800-1000 RPMs and never heard any of my DDC's. I'm in the process of switching all my YL's to GT's for even further silence and I'm expecting nothing will change. My HDD's make the most noise in my systems and they will slowly get swapped out for SSD's as the tech improves and prices drop.

are you going with the 1850 RPM fans waterlogged?

I'm also considering changing the Yate Loon Mediums from my system for some GT's also. but not sure if they will be quieter or not.

Ofc they make some difference like DDC tops.

I think those 1850 fans are great if you undervolt them while you are idling. Do you have automatic fan controller.. like T-Ban, aquero, heatmaster or scythe kaze server? Easiest and cheapest is Mcubed fan amp. Just use it with your motherboard cpu header and let your smart fan ability change the fan speeds.

Yes, but I dont get it when people ask about silence and they got answers like that.

Yes this is extremeforums and 3000rpm fans are EXTREME.. Although its a bit of "cheap". Its more extreme and expensive to have extreme performance and silence (like using mora 2 without fans to cool core i5 750 @ 4.2ghz, only heavy gaming need some airflow and prime/linx). That's just my opinion

Sorry.. [/Off-topic Ends]

I have 3 1850's, 6 1450's and a 1150. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten to installing any of them in my liquid builds yet due to being distracted by a heinous little build which will get a 1450. I have done some quick subjective comparison testing and the GT's do sound better to me. While I could easily live with the 1850's, the sound at full blast of the 1450's is more within my comfort level.
