Sorry for another 'what rad/fan' thread but having read most of the search results i've noticed it's usually best to ask you guys about a specific situation/needs.

So the plan is to have some 360 rads cooling 3-way SLI gtx 480 setup, mobo is evga 4-way so a 4th card just _might_ come in if they work on the drivers and some $ magically remains in my pocket after completing this build...

My plan was to initally get 3 feser/swiftech 360s - 1 for an i7 980X + motherboard and 2 for the fermis (with a 3rd rad for that loop in mind should the 4th fermi come into play). got a MM extended ascension (so got room for 4 max)

as for the fans i was first considering the low speed triebwerks, but some people here pointed out they are overpriced and don't justify the thickess performance-wise. so right know i'm thinking:

NB Pl-2
Enermax Magma
Enermax Apollish

The general idea is for the setup to be 60% silence 40% performance as i'm not planning on any crazy overclocking (maybe want to try to get the i7 @4.0). Preferably I'd like the fans red or black (PL-2 is dark enough)...

All suggestions welcome

What you could is get some thin rad with a high fpi count but use a push pull setup of gently typhoon ap15 or some yate loons sm. The setup would be :
1st loop: res-pump-cpu-mobo-any thin 360 rad-res
2nd loop: res-pump-1st gpu-2nd gpu-360 rad-res
3rd loop: res-pump-3rd gpu-4th gpu( if you dont have enough money left for the 4th fermi card, you could put instead there your mobo block)-360 rad- res

As for the choice of rad: for thin one :swiftech mcr320, koolance cuv 1020 or Black ice gt stealth are all around 60$.

Well, if you're going Fermi Tri-SLI, you probably aren't on a tight budget.

For silent cooling, I would go with one MCR320 per GPU, and run fans in push/pull at about 800rpm. Just about any fan will be fine at that speed. Gentle Typhoons are best, but honestly, with GPU's, push-pull, and that kind of radiator surface area, the fan type won't be super important.

TBH even single side fans would probably be fine.

2 loop.

CPU/MOBO and GPU

With 3x360 rad you can use your best one for the CPU loop and the 2worst on the GPU loop.

Pull or Push/pull with gentle typhoon at ~1000rpm for something quite silent ! ( shrouded if you can )

wow this is a massive build. i'm a silence freak, and to me even low speed YL's are too loud. the gentle typhoons are nice to the ears paired with thick rads.

:welcome: to XS, although it looks like you've been here and lurking, just never posted.

Looks like your goin to have one kick ass rig going.....

when you get it all together, make sure you get some pic up for me/us.

I'm using 1X Feser 360 for my i7 920 (at 4.0) and 2 X MCR320 for my Tri-Crossfire set-up, with 9 Gentle Typhoons 1850 at 700-800 rpm. 14 fans total in the case, all at 700-800 rpm.

Working perfectly. My 5970 and 5870 are OCed and dumping alot of heat. So it should work for Tri-SLi 480 also. Performance and silence. :)

The advice I've received lately says to put the CPU/MB on 2x 360s and the GPUs on 1 360 as GPUs aren't nearly as dependent on good heat dissipation.

Imho not exactly 'should'. One 480 is clother to 5970 in energy usage/heat dissipation. Though 2 x 3*120 should be enough even for 3x5970. With a little bit higher fanspeed for same temps, but in quiet area nevertheless imho.

2 triple rads for 3 GTX 480's with 750-1000 RPM fans will be fine, That was my plan, but now using 3 5870's... but I am using 2 triples and one quad for the CPU and MOBO block, I have built a few i7's with one triple rad for CPU/MOBO, and works well for most decent overclocks, built one with two triples for CPU/MOBO and one with 3 triples for the CPU/MOBO, and now this one.. doing it for a reason. lol, but this one was also suppose to have dual CPU's, but I got my budget "trimmed" by the boss... for now. lol
a 240 MM black ice GTX with 6000 RPM 38mm fans will also cool the CPU fine... just loud as hell.

Thx for welcome :) yeah, I've been more of lurker than poster...

As to the cpu+mobo loop I could get a 120 rad in the space bertween the psus to add to a 360 if I really wanted. And then have 3x 360 at the front for the cards...

Don't really want to go high fpi and as I've found my gtx480 to perfrom well only withe thick ultra kazes running at a speed unbearable to the ears...

So any swiftech/ feser rads with noiseblockers should do well?

Yes, I will surely put some pics up when the build starts to unfold...
