I have an EVGA 8800 GTX card that was barely used and was contemplating selling it. Then I was reading around and saw that some people end up buying a separate card to use as a dedicated PhysX card.

Would the 8800 GTX be a good enough candidate for that purpose? Would I see noticeable performance improvement? Or should I sell it?

it will work perfect as a physx card as long as you have the space for it.

yes it will work..no you will not see an improvement other than the bodies will fly nicely. :)
a 9600 gt will suffice and cost lees power to run it..but since you have it use it.

As a side question, would you say my PSU (Enermax Liberty ELT620AWT 620 Watt) is sufficient for this purpose?

oh and you may see a fps increase if you are now using the primary card to genertae physics
.mostly by offloading that from the primary card to a dedicated card

Considering that then it sounds like its worth while that I keep the card as oppose to selling it!

Oh, yes and one more question: When I install the 8800 GTX, do I install the 8800 GTX drivers as well (I am assuming yes!)?

Would that cause any kind of conflict within windows by having two different GPUs running simultaneously?

No separate drivers needed. Just install the correct ones for your main card, physx will be enabled on restart.

Also, your psu is fine for it.

If you use 1 screen, GTX 285 as a 3d renderer, 8800 GTX as a physx card, then there is nothing to worry about. Just install the nVIDIA latest ForceWare, go to the NVIDIA Control Panel -> PhysX settings -> PhysX on 8800 GTX. Done. The ForceWare will take care both of your cards.

Yes, only one screen.

I want to make sure that I understand this right. So if ForceWare is installed already for the GTX 285 (which I assume it was insatlled when I installed the GTX 285 drivers) then there is no need to download and install the specific drivers for the 8800 GTX?

You're correct, nVIDIA has intergrated physx driver into their ForceWare for months. Just plug both cards into the mobo and restart. And don't forget to plug your monitor to the 3d renderer/primary card
