View Full Version : Old hardware inquiry. 7300GT DDR2 vs FX 5900U performance.

Okay, a machine I built for a friends son waaaaay back may have the BFG FX5900 Ultra going on the fritz. Now, the card is covered by BFG's lifetime warranty and if they choose to RMA the card he'll probably get the 7300GT 512mb DDRII card in return.
Here's the question, how well do you think the 7300GT will perform compared to the FX5900 Ultra in WoW @ 1280x1024?

Hmm maybe ask for 5900U to return, it's rather rare card, you can sold it and after buy something like 8800GTX =)

they will not send u back a 7300, i would bet that they would try to send a 9400, but in the US (i assume that u are in the US as thats were they extended the lifetime warranty) they should have to give u something of the same value. those cards were expensive and rare so they should send u atleast a 250/260 but i bet that u could get a 275 or 285 out of it

Well, this is for an AGP system so there will be no 9400. As far as I can gather the 7300GT would be roughly on par or maybe a little slower than a 6600GT which should technically mean it should at least be as fast as the FX 5900 Ultra was.
Seeing as the 7300GT is the last AGP card BFG has in production and I assume it's very close to the 7300GT in performance there is prob no way in hell they'll toss us a 7800GS and I have no prob with that mainly because the system prob won't be able to power anything higher than a 6600GT anyways. Would be nice to get a 6600GT back though :)

i think that they will give u pci or a pci-e they had a free stepup/trade in for agp a while ago so they may extend that to u. and the 7300 is not near the 6600 the 7600 and 6600 were about the same

This was your original question. I had a 7300GT a few years back. It's not a bad card. But it's not great. It'll run WoW without a hitch at that resolution. I can't give you performance comparisons, but my experience with the 7300GT was overall delightful.
If I recall, I think it ran BF2.

YEah, the only game performance I'm concerned about is WoW so it's nice to see someone had experience with WoW on the 7300GT, kinda sucks that the only one BFG has in action for AGP has cripled performance due to the 667mhz DDRII. I've seen the memory can be OC'd to around 700 - 800mhz but as always that is no guarantee and I'd rather not OC anything in his machine as they are not the people to keep an eye on hardware or dust machines out frequently enough.
