I was wondering whether my 700 W Thermaltake PSU can handle a 2nd GTX 275.
To run the 2 cards in SLI, do they need to be from the same brand or is it enough another card with similar specifications? or can I even add a GTX 285 or 295?
The information on the box mentioned it supports SLI, but considering how much the cards draw plus the other components I have some doubts it will handle 2 cards.

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

My guess is it will handle a second GTX275's load, but it might no longer be working at the same effiency. I had a 700W TT PSU, but when I upgraded my 9800GTX+ to GTX 275 SLI, I felt safer upgrading to a HX850

I'd say probably a bit near the limit but ok provided that the 12v output is up there.there are bound to be guys here with this set-up though to get some hands on answers

Any brand. And your PSU should be fine.

maybe I also should mention, that I would use then both cards on GPUGrid basically 24/7

its gonna be close. You could at least try it out, then if its having trouble, grab a 850watt.

card uses almost 400w stock at max load i believe. gpu grid usually does around 60-70% load or something right?

so about 600w for the cards i'd say, and then the rest of the system

GTX275 has a TDP of 219W... This PSU should be enough, like I mentioned above, unless you really heavily OC.
However, don't hope for much headroom, obviously. You'll probably use 90%+ of what your PSU can deliver.

I'd say it's fine. I had a 650W PSU running 2 GTX 260s and an OCed i7 and it ran just fine. (24/7 GPUGrid and WCG)

I'd care to bet I still had some headroom left, and i can't imagine 275 would take up over 100W more...

As long as both cards are same Compute capable they will be fine. You can mix a 260 and 295. In the messages window it will say what CC they are.

I'm running two 260-216s OC on an MSI X58 board with a 920. It's been running full bore for a few days now on a Corsair 750 watt unit.

Dak or Stoneageman would know the best answer, I would guess.

Thanks everyone for the fast response. :yepp:

I found this online calculator from Thermaltake http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/Power which confirmed your finding.
Based on the calculation (considering my overclocked system) and your feedback I concluded it is better to upgrade my PSU first, before adding another card - especially for a 24/7 system. It really seem to be possible, but the PSU would be in a load range I don't feel comfortable working with for a long time.

Thanks again to everyone
