i was wondering if two 280 in sli would perform better than 3 260's in sli? i currently have 3 260 in tri but they dont seem to scale very well, however they do perform very well. just wondering if it would be worth switching to dual 280?

How does just 2 260's run?

im curious as to what you're doing that is bogging down three 260's...

LOL nothing is bogging it down. (except crysis LOL)
i am just an idiot who has came across a pair of 280's with DD waterblocks already installed for 550 shipped for both. i am wondering if it is worth the 'upgrade' considering i have three air cooled 260's.

It's a bit late to get 280, don't you think? DX11 era has started...
But yes, 2x 280 will perform much better, mostly due to smaller performance losses associated with SLI and more VRAM. And not many games benefit from the third gfx card at all.

but does it sound good, price wise, sound good considering waterbocks? i know it is late to get 280 believe me i have been taking that into consideration. but is this the proverbial offer to good to refuse?

Are those 260 216's or 192's? Or for the same cash you could find a couple used 5850's? Not trying to talk you out of nV but the 5 series is pretty impressive.

they are the 216's...i understand what your saying maynard it is why i am asking, such a quandry i am in! its a very tough decision

If it's tough, I say don't do it. $550 is too much ching imo to drop on cards that are about to be seriously outdated. Maybe hold off until March 26th to see what the fermi prices are, just don't blow that wad on the 280's.

$550 is better spent towards a single 5970 or 2x 5850's at this point.In 2 days $400 ish will get you 2x 5830's.

Once in stock the 5970's are $650 - $700, 5850's arround $300 each and 5830's are supposed to launch arround $200 each. Imho I think xFire 5830's is the way to go if your system supports xFire otherwise wait for the new Nvidia cards to come out and get thier flagship single GPU card which will prob outclass GTX 280 Sli @ $500 - $600 at launch.

This is all just my oppinion and is loosely based on fact if at all and I am not responsible for whatever issues you acrue for any decision you make by taking my advice to heart. If however you take any of my advice and it works out for the best, remember who's idea it was :)

lol if you have 550 bucks to spare just get a 5870, keep the rest for other stuff

IMO spending that muhc money on older gen card is a really bad desicion....but it's me
