Hey,

I'm looking to buy my first HDTV LCD with a budget of ~$750, but of course I would like to spend less if possible.

The TV will mainly be used for general viewing, blu ray's and video games (xbox 360/ps3), and 1080p is a must.

I'm looking in the 40" range, like the Samsung LN40B630, LG 42LH30/40, LG 47LH30 and the LG 42LH50.

I do have some questions though. Does 120hz really matter that much? Is the gloss black side panel of the LG distracting?

Thanks

Do yourself a favor and go to your local big chain electronics store and ask them to demo a regular LCD right next to one of the same size that can do 120 or 240Hz. You will be amazed. As for the price, go to newegg.com they have a nice deal on an LG 42" LCD w/ 120Hz I believe it's on sale for $770 shipped:

You will need to use promo code EMCYNYX36 at checkout and must have an account with them before checking out for the code to work.

For that kind of money, get yourself a Panasonic 42" plasma and be done with it.

No LCD can come close to competing.

only thing distracting is is the creep power L.E.D in the right corner on the LG's

I just helped my dad pay for bigger then 42" there 46.9" Lcd HDTV. it's not the 120hz one but I'd doubt I would noticed that on cable HD most channels are 1080I and not 1080P

Get the plasma, do only light gaming for the first 200 hours.
Panasonics are resistant against burnin after that.
LG is more susceptible to burn in then the pana

I do not see a difference between 120 vs 240hz if you want lcd get 120hz and save the extra cash for speakers or something.

I think I've narrowed my choices to the LG 42LH30/40, the samsung B550/630/650/750 and I can dream, but the samsung 8500.

It seems like I really haven't narrowed my choices at all :)

I'm going to wait on purchasing for a few weeks anyway, tax time :(
