:confused::confused:

Hi all.

i'm looking to get a good CAD graphics card and was looking into the quadro FX4400. however, i'm not sure how they measure up to current graphics card with regards to price/performance ratio. e.g. 8800gt, 9800gt etc...

The price of these cards is still rather steep, but it would be good to know what other cards its performance can be equated to.

Any info would be greatful

thank you for your time!

It's basically the equivalent of a GeForce 6800GT, with more RAM. A more up-to-date card like the fx 580 might be a better choice. Or the fx 1800, if you can afford it...

if u cant buy a top of line quatro i would recommend getting an ati 4870/4890 then flashing the device id to match the fireGL or modding the drivers to detect the ini of the 4890/4870 as a fireGL. that will be the best solution for doing CAD or solid works. its unfortunate but i dont think that u can take a gforce and load qua drivers anymore

what are you planning to do with it? my work is about retarded and gave us ATI X1300pro's to run PDMS and smartplant3d...

I think Quadro NVS series should be fine for ACAD...

Hell, I even run it in a virtual machine ;]

for cad work, you would be fine with a 9800gt

the responses have been overwhelming! thanks guys! what had me head scratching my head is the steep price of the FX 4400, of which the retail value was even more expensive then a GTX 295 OUCH!!!!

workstation cards come with a huge amount of tech support and driver optimization and u need them for some things like if u need to have a certified work station.

if u need something for cad or the like pickup a 4870/90 and flash the device id to the fireGL version. NV cards suck for anything workstation related compared to the ati cards since back in the r3xx days.
