I recently bought a 9800gtx and wanted to use my 8800GT for physx. Does the 8800GT need a power cord to work?

If it has a socket for a PCI-E power connector, it will not work without one. If you're looking for a cheap low-power card to run PhysX I'd suggest a 9800GT Green/Eco - no PCI-E power connector required.

Is it worth that ? i was thinking the same i have my GTX285 heavy modded but my rad is at the back so i dont want any card blowing high temps to my rad...

A GTX285 just for PhysX is massive overkill. Personally I think PhysX is a massive waste of time and money in any case, but if you must have a PhysX card you'd be far better off selling the 285 and using some of the profit to get a cooler, lower-power card to do the work.
