Here I have two offers for this card:

Gigabyte GTX 285 1GB - 330€
eVGA GTX 285 1GB - 300€ (packaging damaged, card is OK, official retailer with guarantee)

I don't read anything special about Gigabyte, eVGA seems to have some problems with screen going black, but possibly limited to SC/SSC overclocked versions...
Anyway, 30€ is a lot of money, I have eVGA 8800GT which performed flawlessly for the couple of years now, and since I don't give a darn about the cooler on the card, because the watercooler is coming on it, I kinda has a hard time to decide...
I also plan to overclock the card to 720 or so.

What would you take?

Thanks
Kosta

I'd take 5850 or wait.
This is crazy expensive, you can buy a used card for 200.
Talking about the companies, eVGA seems to be easier to RMA to.

i agree with others I have been wanting a new card, but I want to see how ati and nvidia compare before I do.

1 month is crazy is what it is. Unfortunately I have to buy a system now: I sold my old for 600€, a very good price for my old one.
So I was looking for 285 because they say it's the best for simming (fs9 and fsx).
How to push through a month without a gpu, I dunno...
And 300 here seems to be a very good offer!! All others are more expensive...

BUT... if it's all that better, maybe I should wait. Anyway, how much should these cards cost?! Are we gonna get for some 350€ a top model GF100?

No, no no no 5870. Very bad card for FS9/FSX. Supposedly it performs a bit better than GTX285, but it has much worse picture quality - and to achieve better, you gotta push the quality settings to maximum, making it more or less as fast as GTX285, for less money, whereas GTX285 still gives better results with combined SS and AA in Nhancer...

I would wait for nVidia's DirectX11 offering, for some reason nVidia's cards seem to fair better in Flight Sim's than ATi cards.
ALthough if you had to buy now, then.......eVGA!

Everyone suggesting to wait kinda is right, I know that. I got one eVGA GTX285 yesterday, and boy is it a good card. Though this DX10-DX11 issue really bothers me.
I can still return the card, because following happened:

As I said, the packaging was damaged and the card used. But what the shop didn't know, is that the person who had it apparently already registered the card on the 20th of December 2009. So two minus things, no 10year guarantee for me and 1 month less of normal 2year guarantee.
Though, the card performs really fast and flawlessly. It eats clouds for breakfast in both sims, which I heard ATI doesn't, and that's the general problem between those two cards. You usually do have some clouds in the sim ;-)
Anyway, the shop offered me to return and refund the full price, no questions asked.

Point is, I return this card now, in a week or two, I won't have a card at all. Question is, how long until new cards arrive and they arrive to Austria...
