EK dual D5/655 top be used in a single loop?

Just a quick question as the title states. Can the EK dual top for the D5s be used in a single loop?

I ask because in the picture on the interior there is no gap between the pumps for the water to flow through both.

EDIT: Never mind i see it now. For all who where wondering also there is a connection from the out of one pump to the intake of the other under the front layer of the housing. Can be slightly seen in the white picture.
