So, I'm a cheap college student, and the old 480i CRT TV we have here just isn't cutting it. I figured it was about time for an upgrade.

I got this HDTV (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889237016) on sale at Newegg for $350. It's from a brand I've never heard much about, but it got decent reviews. It has plenty of inputs, and the owners mostly say they are happy with it.

Anyone else have this TV or ever seen it? I'm excited, as I own an Xbox 360, and my roommate recently got a Blu-ray ROM drive we're going to stick in one of my old boxes to use as a Blu-ray player, as well as the fact that our university cable broadcasts some (not many though) channels in high definition.

Happy is a relative term. I think more like most were glad to find a 32" 1080p for $350 and they've yet to own it long enough to see the tradeoffs. The warning signs seem to be very poor text quality, no digital audio out, poor lifespan, and lousy service. I'm of the mindset to buy a well made brand on sale, such as Sony or Panasonic. Even if it costs $600 vs $350, it will pay for itself on down the road. These cheap ones are disposable and you get poor quality during their short life, a double negative if you ask me.

^ I think this guy is right. I know a guy who knows a guy disguised as another guy that works for one such company that makes these cheaper/lesser known brands that tells his guy who told my guy who in turn tells me that these things are crap because they're designed NOT to last much longer than the warranty.

This reminds me of my Sharp 32" I bought for $1200 3 years ago. :(

Hannspree and HannsG are a very good make, the reason why their prices are so low is because they manufacture their panels themselves which apparently costs a lot less than buying them.

I was going to add this to the above but forgot when I was sidetracked by a chore here at home.

There's a lot more to a TV than the LCD panel. The guys making lots of money on the manufacturing end are the engineers designing advanced video processing chips. That's what sets the TVs apart in picture quality and the end user pays for it.
