Hey, just got done building a new system.

specs:

i5 750
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 260 SO

I game at 1080p. I was thinking about getting a 5850 when ordering parts, but couldn't find one before or at $300. Now newegg has them for $299 shipped. I can return the card I have without a restocking fee, so I am wondering whether or not it would be a good idea. Should I return it and get the 5850, or just stick with what I have now till fermi? Some games I am playing for an idea....Street Fighter IV, Aion, Crysis Warhead, LFD2...

thanks for the help

260 won't cut it, I suggest getting 5850.

yeah 5850 will be much better you play some quite graphical games so the added perf boost would be nice :)

I had a 5850, returned it for a GTX260. Reason is the 5850 crashes under win7 in games. Check the ATI forum, but everyone who has a 58xx is finding the same thing, but with various failure modes. With me, it was dependent upon OS...crashes with win7, does not crash with Vista.

You guys are doing something wrong then. My 5850 works perfectly and overclocks like a beast. For Crysis, you'd definitely benefit from having a 5850. I don't have any experience with your other games.

Send it back and get the 5850.

All those games, with Crysis Warhead being the exception, play absolutely fine on the GTX 260 @ 1920X1080. I'd wait for Fermi. I guess I'm the odd one out on this.

I agree with you 100% yukontrooper i played all games at max at 1920x1080 on my gtx260 and only got a second one to last me until at least mid 2011-2012.

If you can return your 260 for a superior product with no restocking fee I'd say that's a no-brainer.

Windows7 or Vista? Also, "works perfectly" means never locks up for even one second. The failure of all 58xx under Win7 in games is that the game locks up for 1-5 seconds, then the card recovers and does not lock up after that as long as you remain in the game. This is typical failure, but about 1 time in 7 the game locks up and does not recover so you are forced to do a reboot. Because these lockups usually go away on tyheir own, people put up with this behavior so it isn't widely reported as a bug.

Have you tried using the Vista drivers?
