Looking for a tv, what do you think about this one?

Primary use for the tv will be xvid movies, dvds, some blu-ray. I'll have it hooked up to the media center pc so i may surf the web a bit but not often. I'll mostly stream hockey games and watch xvid ripped movies. I may get an internal blu-ray player but i haven't decided since i get all of my movies through torrents.

My main concern about the tv is the 60hz refresh rate. I am a complete rookie with big screens but i'm told 60hz can cuuse flickering effects. Can anyone give me some pointers on the tv? Will xvid videos look like absolute garbage on the tv? They look great on my netbook which is 1024x600 and decent on my 1920x1080 24" monitor. Don't want to buy something and regret it later ya know.

that will be ok, but u should look at getting a plasma, the lg an panasonic will accept 24/30/60/120hrz input without having use interpilation, and for picture quality u cant beat a plasma unless u step up to a dlp like the 60" mitsu.

the down side is that a 42-50" plasma is about 175W while an lcd would be 75-100W but the picture is so nice

its much cheaper in store since they are clearing them out for the new panels from ces with youtube and that expanded internet bs. i dont know were u are but if u are near video only they are about $800 there

LG has a hot panel.
Panasonic Panels run cooler

In the first 200 hours LG is more sustainable to burn in compared to the panasonics and get stuck longer.

Although both have orbiting pixels and the white scroll bar.

There are several series of plasma from panasonic, from what I've noticed AFTER Calibration the z series are much better then the ones 2 steps below.
The 6xx series from samsung are close to the top pana
the 5xx series from samsung doesn't have as good blacks or color compared to the 6xx

From I've noticed DLPs and plasmas are very close in picture accuracy. remember compared after calibration. I have not seen the mitsu one although I'm sure they make some of the most accurate screens I've known, I've oened their old crts and i still use them.

Go for panasonic plasmas if you can, after 200 hours you don't burn in unless you leave one some image for the whole day (24hours) Ive left mine on for 10 hours and burn in is removed after a few minutes, and not noticeable in a movie playing. probably only black background

hmm. I must have only seen the worst DLPs ever then cause I have never seen a DLP I thought looked any decent.

Also, the LG 60PS11 is a very nice looking display, unfortunately newegg just sold out after the sale for $600 off.
