Hey Everyone,

Planning on doing a Cosmos S up for my first attempt at some case modding / water cooling. I am going to be powder coating the case, adding additional cable management, sleeving PSU, changing PSU colour (red -> black), and modding Case LED's from RED to Blue.

Just got the case from Pruolator today. I am still waiting on the water cooling parts and 2 shipments from Nils.

Setup Will Be:

Gigabyte UD5
I7 920
Mushkin Redline DDR1600 6-7-6-16
BFG GeForce GTX275
3x640GB WD Black Raid 0
1x1TB WD Green
Lamptron FC3
PC&Power 750W Silencer

Water Cooling:
Swiftech MCP655
Thermochill PA120.3
Swiftech Apogee XT
EK Ex Res 100 REV2
3xS-Flex 1900 RMP
1/2 IN Black Tubing

Mods
4 3MM Blue LED - Need at least 6
1 5MM Blue LED

Getting ready to tear it right down tomorrow. I have a dremmel so I am planning on cutting out some new cable holes. I notice most people remove the top grill, I was thinking about doing that to make more room for the fans. Hopefully take it to get a powder coat on Friday. Found someone locally that will do it for $50 which, I'm pretty happy about.

I'm just crossing my fingers my black rivets and sleeving arrive before Friday.

Any tips on removing the quick release bay covers?

Any tips on removing the quick release bay covers?

Just plug them out. Mine came off quite easily.

This is a great looking case. But beware of that stupid stupid touch button and its complementary extension cable. I don't know who came up with that system but I would slap him in the face. I got the case for about a month now and I'm still starting my PC from the mobo button. :shakes: Good news is I found a really easy way to get rid of that extension cable. I got a lot of work to do now but maybe this weekend I'll post a guide on how to do it...

Yeah that's a quick turn off alright. If I would have researched a bit more I wouldn't have gotten this case no matter how good it looks. Just check out the cooler master support forums if you don't believe me about that button.

At first I thought it was a compatibility issue with my Corsair HX750 cause some people were reporting issues with the HX850 in the Corsair forums. But with some help from a friend I figured out the button itself is broken. It works just fine for turning the PC on but then the bugger remains blocked and keeps sending the signal so the PC naturally turns off. :shakes: We figured out which piece on the PCB is broken and with some luck next week we'll replace it. I'll try to post a full log in my thread in the xtreme mods forum.

But enough of derailing this thread. I'm actually here to get some ideas for my own build and I just can't wait for more pictures in this thread!

Tonight there will be more pics :) I am going to cut the cable management holes and then drill out all the rivets. I feel like I'm going way to quick for my first mod but this is way to much fun. I can tell you though that I am having one hell of a time trying to track down some Rubber Edging for the holes. Hopefully I can dull them down enough with the dremmel that they won't be hazardous.

i hate seeing cosmos builds because it shows how lazy i was when i did mine lol

FWIW, my touch power button works just fine... has for 7 months now. atleast it did with my OCZ GameXStream 700w... thats being replaced with a 650HX today.

I have read some of the horror stories about the power button hope everything works out.

So I got around to doing some cutting tonight. I managed to cut the hole for the Sata cables. I think I did fairly well for my first time using the dremmel.

Here are the results:

Put the motherboard in to get some measurements for cutting.

I figure it was 4" from the top stand off to the top of the 24" pin connector and the connector is 2" long.

The SATA connectors are centered about 8.5" from the top stand off.

I started off with a cutting wheel that was a little to big. I switched over to a smaller wheel and it cut through like butter.

Took a file to the rough edges at a 30 - 45 degree angle to get rid of the sharp edges. It worked out pretty well the edges are smooth to touch.

Ok I finished cutting the holes tonight. Hopefully they all work out ok, I haven't put the mobo in for a test run yet. Going to hopefully drill out the rivets tomorrow and get it in for powder on Monday. In the mean time I will be busy sleeving my PSU thanks to a new shipment from Nils. The quality of MDPC cable is phenomenal compared to the stuff I was able to get locally.

The unibit :) I tried to get fancy and drill out two circles and connect them for rounded edges. I wasn't skilled enough to pull it off so I resorted to the rectangle. However all the edges are filed down and are smooth to the touch.

Small Update..

Got everything torn down and ready for some powder. Think I might have messed up cutting the holes for cable management. I decided that for some reason I should cut the holes a bit in from the standoffs. Now I am rethinking that decisions, since the cables will probably touch the motherboard since the standoffs are fairly small. Someone suggested to secure them with zip ties which I will try.

Some new toys, the rad is still on back order but for $80 CDN its worth the wait. I found that almost everything I bought in Canada is much cheaper then most of the big US retailers. I ordered everything from DirectCanada.ca. My Swiftech XT was under $70 and shipping was free.

Here are some pics of taking our the rivets and drilling it down. I am getting a semi-gloss black powder put on and I am told it will be ready by Friday.

Here is where I put my Kill Coil. Does that look like an acceptable place for it to go? It is 99% fine silver from a local jeweler. I paid $10 for a 1.2g strip.

Finally here is what I am thinking in terms of loop design.

http://imgur.com/2jbXol.jpg

The red Line is what I will probably do, but the 90 run along the back is what I would prefer. Anyone have see any major problems with what I am thinking.

Can anyone help me figure out the compression fittings I need to finish this off. I didn't realize that the res does not come with fittings, so I need to order some. I was also thinking about adding a top to my pump. I can get the EK block locally but I really like the look of the Bitspower top (MCP655). Is one top better performance wise than the other?

For the Thermochill PA120.3 that uses G3/8 I cannot seem to find any compression fittings. From the looks of my ideal loop I would need to have a 90 fitting on the Res.

Here is what I think I need in terms of fittings.

7x G1/4 1/2ID 3/4OD Compression fittings - 2 for the CPU block, 3 for the res (adding fillport), 2 for pump if top is added.

Maybe a couple elbow pieces? - Not really sure what to get in terms of additional pieces.

you can use convertors to g1/4 on the thermochill PA120.3

that's too bad with the rad you have!

Well 1st big noob mistake.. the "Cable Management" holes I cut suck.. The standoffs are small for this case and not knowing what I was doing I definitely cut the holes wrong. I have also decided I need to get a new modular PSU to make this thing look nice and tidy. Good news is that I got the case back from Powder and it looks great. I got a semi-gloss black applied, I will post pictures tonight. My question is does anyone have any recommendations as to what to do with the holes I cut. There is practically no way I can possible fit the cables behind the mobo without a good chance of the solder points jabbing the PSU wires.

http://imgur.com/Opb1Nl.jpg

Question is do I leave the holes as is and just don't use them. Extend them so they are bigger but allow me to run my cables through them OR cut completely new holes. I am somewhat hesitant to cut new holes since I have already got the powder applied. Major lesson learned: don't get excited, take your freaking time when your cutting holes!!

i'd leave them the way they are and cut new one(s)...

Are you using the 24Pin adapter that came with the case?

i'm using 2 different 24pin adapters... the one that came with the case and a 2nd one on which I put only black cables!

I see, so you have a 3way daisy chain with 24-pin adapters? I am pretty much decided on getting a new PSU as this PC&Power one is not modular, its red, and is has white (yuck) plugs.

a corsair 650W (7 or even 850W) would fit right with the Gigabyte EX58-UD5 color...

the 650HX would work great, im fairly happy with the cable lengths out of the box too... its still a clusterf*ck in my machine tho.

I will probably wait for a bit since my wallet has taken quite the hit and pickup something to match soon hopefully.. Argh.. the quest for aesthetics..
