I have a Gigabyte EX58-DS4 paired with i7 920 and noticed recently my PC tends to freeze on some light loads.

I run the recent recent bios with no overclock, except upped SPD information to match my 1600MHz Corsair RAM.
The ICH temp reported is ~85C after some light gaming and ~75C when surfing.

Now I would suspect bad sensor readings or poor heatsink contact but heatsink connecting chipset and pwm is VERY hot to touch. I measured it being ~70C, using the laser thermometer.

remove the heatsink and replace it anyway as it might not be making proper contact even if it is hot to the touch. otherwise make sure air is flowing over it freely.

Did you try to put a fan on it? Try it before removing it.

my dfi board runs 34c idle and 48-51c on load....i have a 50mm fan from a hard drive cooler blowing on it..ive had 3 i7 boards, evga ,asus and dfi and from my experience the dfi is top of the hill.
it runs the coolest and benchmarks higher than the other two at stock speeds..im running now at 3.2mhz stock volts 1.18v...
this dfi board is not the ut module its the dk t3 and i just love it..im not a dfi fan boy as this is my first dfi board and for my needs its perfect..
i am a temp nut and this board with the sinestered [something like that] heatpipe really works..my northbridge and pwm's run even temps.
right now doing this my temps are pwm 32, ioh 33,cpu all cores are 31-35c....i have a v8 on it and lian li case...well enough said..if you cant fix your cooling rma the board or sell it and check out the dfi board, there getting hard to find though....

GB x58 extreme has similar heatpipe, it idles at 43, after 12 hours prime it maxes at 52-53. If I put a fan on it, it maxes at 45-46. most of loaded ones I have seen on GB boards have been in 50's.

Well, unless i have a lemon board i guess ICH being surrounded by GTX275, large heatpipe cooler with <1000rpm fan and 6 sticks of DDR3 ram at 1600MHz, have something to do with it.
It is kinda boxed in.
I don really mind it running hot, but freezing is unaceptable! :)
